P&Cs need to know...

Council membership fees

Invoices for your P&C's membership to Council are being sent out today (yes, this is later than previous years). For the first time in 10 years, there is a small increase in the rate for our membership fee (from 90c per student at the school to 95c, plus GST). The rise will help us increase staff hours so that we can better meet the needs of our members - that's you. We believe that we offer a valuable service, both in advocating for the views and concerns of parents, and supporting volunteers with advice and resources. The benefits of membership are outlined here.

School reports

It's report time and some schools are trialing the Directorate's new report template. If you have feedback about the new report format, we'd love to hear it - just email us. We'll collect and collate parent views and ideas and feed them back to the Directorate. It might make a great topic to discuss at your first P&C meeting next term!

Single Touch Payroll

P&Cs who employ staff are required to transition to Single Touch Payroll. If this is proving difficult, your P&C can apply for an exemption to this new requirement of the Tax Office. If you would like to do so, or find out more, please contact our office and we can talk you through the exemption process. Don't know what we are talking about? Find out more here

Topics for parent info nights

One role which many P&Cs are taking on, particularly in high schools and colleges, is running Information Forums for parents on topics they may appreciate help with (things like sex, drugs and screens!).
We have compiled a list of ideas for topics and speakers.

After school care providers

If your P&C manages your After School Care program, you are invited to a meeting with the Directorate to talk about the their new tender process for service providers. It's on at the Centre for Teaching and Learning in Stirling at 6:45pm on Thursday August 8. Please let Veronica in our office know if you plan to come.

Risk management at events

We have a new template to help step you through the process of considering and managing risks for your next major P&C-run event.

Are you collecting 10c containers?

The ACT's new Container Deposit Scheme is a potential fundraising opportunity for P&Cs and schools (while encouraging recycling in your community), with money back on most common drink containers. We'd love to hear from you if your school or P&C has signed up, so we can hear what works for you. Please email us so we can ask a few quick questions (we love picking the brains of our brilliant P&Cs!)
Council happenings...

Constitution workshop

Our constitution workshop on Tuesday 30 July will be going ahead (from 7 to 9:30pm at the Centre for Teaching and Learning, 51 Fremantle St, Stirling). If your constitution needs updating, there are still places available. Click here to register.  This hands-on workshop will step you through the process of reviewing, updating and amending your constitution as well as how to pass the amended constitution through your P&C.

June General Meeting - read all about it

If you missed our last Hot Topics meeting you can catch up online. We learnt about the job of the 'Directors of School Improvement', heard P&C concerns about risk management plans at events and chromebooks, and discussed Council's work on an updated business model for P&Cs.

Upcoming events

  • Office closed for school holidays July 6-21.  (But we will attend to your enquiries periodically during this time.)
