Meeting tonight

Everyone is welcome to tonight's General Meeting, which will begin with a presentation from Natalie Howson, the Director General of the Education Directorate. This is a great chance to hear Natalie speak about the future challenges for ACT education and parent participation or ask a question.

This is also a 'Hot Topics' meeting where we discuss, in depth, pressing issues in schools and for P&Cs. Tonight at 6:45 for 7pm, 51 Fremantle Drive, Stirling.

Calling all new treasurers, presidents, secretaries!

Our free training workshops are on soon, so RSVP for one today!
Presidents and secretaries
Our Effective P&C Workshop covers ways to improve how your association works, recruiting volunteers, fundraising, improving meetings, and the P&C as an employer.  Plenty of time is allowed for your questions. Thursday March 30 at 6:30pm or Saturday April 1 at 2pm. Details here.
Treasurers
Our Treasurer's and Insurance Workshop takes you through keeping good financial records, reporting, the annual audit, employing staff, handling money and how to arrange appropriate insurance. All treasurers are strongly encouraged to attend. Thursday April 6 at 7pm.  Details here.

New!  Treasurer guides

You asked for it, we've written it - a detailed guide for P&C Treasurers which will hopefully make the job easy for even the most inexperienced treasurer. We have called it the P&C Treasurer's Handbook.  It covers everything from how to keep basic financial records and operate P&C bank accounts to budgeting and taxation issues for P&Cs.

We've also created a set of basic spreadsheets to form the basis of your bookkeeping. They include instructions and annotations and cleverly take totals from one sheet to the next to create reports and more!  They are suitable for use by P&Cs with a simple financial situation (ie those not running small businesses such as canteens).

These resources are new and we would love your comments so that we can improve them further.

Beginning year reporting obligations

P&Cs have several reporting obligations at this time of year, some of which are statutory requirements. We've listed the essential post-AGM tasks here.

Grants

We've compiled a list of grants for which your P&C may be eligible to apply.

Canberra Preschool Society meeting

The Canberra Preschool Society AGM will be held at 7pm on Thursday April 6, at the Centre for Teaching & Learning, 51 Fremantle Drive, Stirling. The guest speaker will be Janelle Bowler, ACT's facilitator for KidsMatter, the Australian Early Childhood Mental Health Initiative. She is committed to promoting ways relationships can influence positive mental health, wellbeing and learning.  Please confirm your attendance by email.

Dealing with difficult people

A free lunchtime talk at the Civic Library on handling difficult behaviour may be of interest to some P&Cs. It is on April 7.

Bullying Day of Action

Last week's National Day of Action Against Bullying highlighted this widespread issue. KidsMatter, Bully stoppers  and Bullying No Way all have excellent resources to help parents deal with bullying in their children's lives. You can read a statement from ACSSO (Council's national counterpart) about this important topic.
