Food safety at school events
Food safety requirements for sausage sizzles and other community events have been in the headlines lately. New regulations mean that if your P&C handles food more than five times a year, you will need to appoint food safety supervisors. Despite reports that community organisations may yet be made exempt from these regulations, Council recommends that P&Cs observe the guidelines in the ACT Health Directorate's comprehensive booklet on food stalls and have parents complete the Directorate's free online training.

Give a 'Gonski'
Council has supported the Gonski school funding model which the federal government had been working towards. This week, we were disappointed to hear Education Minister Christopher Pyne announce that the funding model will be abandoned. His announcement is seen by many as breaking an election promise. An online petition is urging the Minister to honour the Gonski funding reforms.

Companion House has compiled a list of useful tips for teachers working with migrant communities, which are well worth circulating within your school community.
