P&Cs need to know...

If you are new to your P&C, welcome! And thanks for volunteering. Council is the peak body for public school parent associations in the ACT and we are here to help you - our members! We hope this fortnightly e-newsletter is a good starting point, which is why all new members are automatically subscribed.

AGM over?

Take a look at our To Do list or post-AGM checklist for your first steps this year! Help with your role is available in our free workshops - see below.

Remember to click through to our Office Bearers' Form to let us know who your new committee members are so we can support them throughout the year.

Didn't fill all your positions? What happens now? Here's our answer to this most frequently asked question.

No longer on the P&C? Please pass on the information above to the person who replaced you  - Thanks! (Remember if you no longer wish to receive this e-bulletin, there is an unsubscribe link below.)

AGM on its way?

We have many resources, templates and information sheets to help you run your AGM. There are also resources to help you organise your financial audit if you are still to finalise that important requirement for your AGM.

Free workshops to keep your P&C running well

Effective P&C Workshop: the perfect workshop for all office bearers to find out more about managing the P&C well. From 'what is our P&C all about' to employing staff; from promoting what you do to running meetings well; the session is a chance to hear from P&C veterans and meet others in the same position as yourself.
Thursday 2 May, 6:30-9:00pm, repeated Tuesday 21 May in Stirling.

Treasurer and Insurance Workshop: all treasurers should attend to find out more about the insurance package Council coordinates for P&Cs, as well as important considerations and details for performing the job of treasurer successfully and as easily as possible.
Thursday 7 May,  7-9:30pm in Stirling.

For more information or to sign up online for any of these training sessions, see our website.

Reconcilation Day Grants are open for organisations to hold meaningful events in the lead-up to or in support of the Reconciliation Day public holiday in May. We have a list of other grants for which P&Cs can apply, and tips on getting grants too.

Transport Canberra's new network begins on Saturday 27 April  in time for the beginning of Term 2. Route information for buses to schools from Term 2 are available here and timetables are coming soon. We recently had a briefing on the new arrangements and were pleased to hear that school buses starting or ending at interchanges will do so in well-marked school bus stops to make things a bit simpler for students. In addition, customer service assistants will be on hand to help at major interchanges. Council still has safety some concerns for students. If you have any comments on what the network changes mean to your family, we'd love to hear from you.

Transport Canberra representatives have confirmed they would be happy to attend parent association meetings at schools to discuss the new network and share information. To organise this, email Kylie Smith, Manager, School and Community Liaison, or call 6205 4337.

Special mention - Latham!

A special mention for Latham Primary School P&C for being our first member to complete their Office Bearers' Form this year! (Honourable mentions to Curtin Primary and Narrabundah college!)

The form contains vital information for us to be able to offer information, training and support to your association this year, so filling it is really is important. Thanks!

Pass it on!

If you think any of the items here are of interest to parents at your school, please pass them on via your school newsletter or whatever other means you like. We have a template page for school newsletters to make it easier for you to cut and paste items to submit to your school newsletter under the P&C Council banner if you wish.

The Canberra Region Volunteering Awards are now taking nominations for individual volunteers or teams making outstanding contributions to their community. We think our P&Cs might know some people who fit that bill!
