Thank your volunteers

Term 4 is a great time to say 'thanks' to all your P&C's volunteers. A simple 'thank you' goes a long way, but a special mention at a school assembly, or specific event such as a morning tea is bound to make people feel more appreciated and help your P&C continue to recruit helpers (now is also a good time to find recruits for next year's committee members - see our resources to help).

We've teamed up with the Education Directorate to produce a professionally designed Certificate of Appreciation which schools or P&Cs can download, add the volunteer name and print. Presented at a special event, these can have a lasting impact. The Directorate have distributed these to all principals so that they are ready to use at your school, or download them from our website.

World Teachers' Day

This Friday (October 27) is World Teachers' Day - a great excuse to express the gratitude we feel for all those hard-working teachers who make a difference to our kids and our schools. If your P&C organises a special 'thank you', we'd love to hear about it (tag us in on social media or email pics)!

Secondary Bursary Scheme

The ACT Government provides financial assistance to support families with education expenses for dependent full-time students in years 7-10 through the Secondary Bursary Scheme. Applications lodged by 30 November will receive their bursary payment of $750 in February/March next year. Application forms are available at schools, Centrelink offices and online.

Inspiring young scientists

On Wednesday November 1, school students and parents/carers are invited to the Fenner Lecture, which seeks to highlight the value of science. This year's speaker, Prof Carola Vinuesa, will speak on genetics, technology and the moral questions that underpin science. The talk will be pitched at school students and students will be invited to ask question. It's on at 6pm at The Shine Dome. There is no charge, but you must register.

Online image-based abuse

The Office of the eSafety Commissioner has created a new online portal to provide tangible support and advice to Australians who have had intimate images or videos shared without their consent.

Focus group: depression and anxiety in young women
