Healthy Kids memberships will be paid by Council
Council's partnership with the Healthy Kids Association (HKA) has proven to be of great assistance to our members running canteens. This year, Council paid for P&C-run canteens to be HKA members, giving them access to canteen business advice, workshops, menu ideas and a new ACT-specific section of the HKA website. Council will again fund memberships next year, so all P&C-run canteens can continue to access these services.
Several schools have had HKA business reviews which find ways to improve canteen operations and profits. HKA then assist with implementing the changes. In one case, a canteen saw sales double within 18 months of the business review!

Good habits for life
The ACT Government has launched a new campaign to help parents with children under eight to eat well, move more and get into life. A key part of the campaign is the Good Habits for Life website where you can complete a quiz (register first) to develop a program of tips and challenges to improve your family's habits, and find practical information, programs and resources to improve your lifestyle. The resources include a habit tracker, a range of games and activities, and even menu and shopping planning tools.

Children's use of technology: survey
Researchers at Curtin University want to hear from parents of 0-5 year olds to find out more about their use of electronic devices. Surprisingly, there is very little detailed information available about the current use of electronic devices by young children. You can help change this by filling in this short online survey.
