P&Cs need to know...

Constitution Workshop

Is your P&C's constitution out of date or no longer reflects current practice? Our practical P&C Constitution Workshop, is specifically aimed at ACT parent associations and will help you review, rewrite or amend your constitution. The workshop is free for you - our members. We will look at the model rules, the ACT Associations Incorporations Act, Council’s sample constitution, and the process of passing an amended constitution through your P&C. It's on Tuesday 30 June, from 7-9:30pm, via Zoom.
Register here.

Effective P&C Workshops

These Free online workshops are designed to help your P&C meet legal obligations, recruit volunteers, run smoothly and stay on track. From what the P&C is all about and your role in it, to the nitty-gritty of running meetings and handling difficult people, all office bearers are encouraged to come. There will be time for questions and some brain-storming too! This year, in response to your feedback, we are offering two sessions:
PART 1: Roles, goals and responsibilities. Tuesday 21 July, 7-8pm, Via Zoom.
PART 2: Communications, meetings, volunteers & fundraising. Wed 22 July, 7-8:30pm (Zoom).
Details of each session and how to register.

We will also be running a training session focusing on P&Cs as employers and canteen providers - details soon.

Insurance

Insurance Renewal Questionnaires are now due to Civic Insurance. Treasurers will have received an overdue notice if you are one of the 20 P&Cs who have not returned this vital paperwork. You need to provide as much detail as possible on your expected activities for the next 12 months so that the insurance can be matched to your needs.

Share expertise with other P&Cs

There's now a new place to connect with other ACT P&Cs! Chat about your parent association, share your ideas and expertise, ask questions, and pick others' brains on our Canberra P&C Leaders Facebook Group. Recent discussions have included banking and recommendations, online meetings, setting up class-networks, event ideas and dealing with difficult people.

If you look after your school's uniform shop, there's a special place to chat through the details of that too, and find out how others manage the challenges - ACT School Uniform Shops Facebook group, run by Farrer Primary School's Judi Barton.

Canteens!  Covid safety plans now required

From June 5, all Food Businesses in the ACT are required to have a written Covid Safety Plan, available in the canteen for inspection by Health Protection Services Inspectors. To assist, Council has created this template (word doc) for a simple plan for your canteen - for you to review and modify to reflect your circumstances. This formalises the discussions, considerations and decisions that you no doubt made when reopening your canteen.
You may also find the following further information useful in constructing your plan:
