P&Cs need to know...

AGM and reporting dates

We reported earlier that the deadline for ACT Incorporated Association's (that's your P&C!) AGMs had been extended until June 30. We have continued to seek further information about dates beyond this, and late fees for completing annual reporting (AR form) requirements (for P&Cs which do not have charity registration).

Access Canberra have now answered our requests and let us know that all associations will soon receive a letter detailing arrangements if you are unable to make the 30 June deadline. We believe that associations will be able to apply for a further extension - all of which will be granted - and once an extension is granted, there will no be late fees for submitting reports/forms after that date, until much later in the year.

Insurance

All Treasurers should now have received the 2020 P&C Insurance Renewal Questionnaire from Civic Insurance, brokers of our group insurance scheme. It is due back at the insurers by June 1.

Treasurers, in conjunction with the committee, should carefully review insurance needs and fill out the questionnaire accurately and comprehensively to ensure the right cover. If your P&C will not be  operating its usual services and activities in the next few months, you might consider not renewing your public liability, injury & accident and property insurance until you are back to normal operations. This would basically be deferring your insurance renewal until later in the year. It may not save you much on the premium but at least does not require upfront payment. However, P&Cs must still renew the Directors & Officers part of your insurance, as this covers your P&C decision makers.

JobKeeper payments are not included in calculating salary levels for workers compensation insurance.

If you have any questions, please contact us or Civic Insurance.

Free training for P&C volunteers

We usually run free training for P&C volunteers to help them run their P&C well, but we're unable to run our usual sessions and we're wondering what online substitute you'd like. What guidance and help do you need at the moment?
A general Q&A session?  A fundraising brainstorm?
Or some 40 minute online training sessions, each covering a specific topic?  Topics might include P&C obligations/regulations; recruiting volunteers; making meetings work/meeting protocols
Or something else?  Or all of these?
Please flick us a super quick email to let us know your needs or comment on our Facebook post

We still hope to be able to run our Constitution Workshop, currently scheduled for June 30.

JobKeeper info

The ATO have updated their JobKeeper for not-for-profits page to include information to answer common questions from not-for-profit organisations. If you have further questions, the ATO not-for-profit information line - 1300 130 248 - is your best bet. Note that Enrolment for JobKeeper (for fortnights ending in April and May) ends 31 May.

JobKeeper payments are not included in calculating salary levels for workers compensation insurance.

Education resources

Looking for educational resources available for everyone to use? Parents and carers can now explore Scootle using a new guest login, gaining access to a range of digital teacher resources that support the Australian Curriculum. Search and browse relevant teaching and learning resources for use in class and at home, find interactive activities, videos, teaching ideas and student resources for all subjects as well as links to specialist resource hubs such as the Early Years Resource Hub, Student Wellbeing Hub and Digital Technologies Hub.

Well being resources

The Student Wellbeing Hub is a space for educators, parents and carers and students to find resources and support that promote wellbeing and learning. Specific COVID-19 wellbeing resources have also been created to support learning communities. The school recovery toolkit is a popular resource, providing information about the impact of trauma in the classroom and how to support recovery.

NBN education assistance package

In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Australian Communications Consumer Action Network has been working with NBN Co, the company that oversees much of Australia’s internet network, to make sure children learning from home have access to the internet services they need. While restriction ease and many children return to face-to-face learning, it is still vital that no student is left offline during this difficult time. So, NBN Co is temporarily waiving the connection fee that phone and internet providers have to pay to connect customers to the internet. This means that until the end of September 2020, a number of phone and internet companies will be providing free or heavily discounted home broadband to eligible low-income households who haven’t already connected to the NBN.

Find our more on ACCAN’s website or NBN Co’s FAQs.
