Single-use plastics ban
From July 1 this year, some single-use plastics will be banned in the ACT (except for domestic/personal use). This includes supplying these at P&C-run events or in P&C-run businesses such as canteens. Banned items:
- All polystyrene cups and food containers
- Disposable/single-use plastic cutlery (including "bio-plastics")
- Plastic drink stirrers (including "bio-plastics")
More items will be banned in coming years.
P&Cs should check their stores for these items and use them before July 1. We realise this will not be possible for many P&Cs and would like to know the extent of P&C stores of these items so that we can work with the ACT Government to find a solution if there is a problem. Please hit a response in our quick poll below!
Quick Poll!
By July 1, how many of these plastic/polystyrene items is your P&C likely to still have?
None or very few
Several packets
A box
Multiple boxes
More info:
See details online or call the Business (and community group) Hotline: 1800 844 946 for help and alternative products.
As registered food businesses, canteens will have received a letter with further details.

Grants
Volunteers
The Federal Government has Volunteer Grants of up to $5000 up for grabs. They can be used to promote volunteering with your P&C, buy small equipment for volunteers, for training, or to reimburse transport costs.
You need to express your interest with your local Federal MP's office before April 18. That's Andrew Leigh in Fenner (Gungahlin and West Belco); David Smith in Bean (southern Canberra); and Alicia Payne in Canberra (central areas).
Extension to Parent Engagement grants
The closing date for Round 5 of the Supporting Parent Engagement Grant Program has been extended until 5pm Friday 23 April. There have been some delays in Round 4 and the extension will give P&Cs more time to apply for these great grants. We have put together some notes to help you apply.

Find out all about it and download the template on our COVID Info for P&Cs page.
