AGM tonight

Please join us tonight for our AGM, from 7pm at the Centre for Teaching and Learning in Stirling. The night will start with a presentation from Ben McHugh from Transport Canberra who will update us on how the Active Streets program will continue to address school traffic problems.

Join the Council office team

Our Policy Officer, Maclaren Wall, is moving to Sydney so we have position vacant in our small office team and would welcome applications for the position from parents. The Policy Officer researches and writes internal policy briefs as well as Council submissions to government. The position is 15 hours a week during school terms. Details of the position and how to apply are on our website.

Council's most useful information source...

We asked you - our P&C members - how useful was the information we provided you this year (if you haven't filled out our annual survey there's still time to tell us about your year on the P&C).

The results are clear - you simply must follow us on social media! P&C office bearers who follow our Facebook or Twitter feed rated it the most useful source of information on all things P&C. Why not join them today?

ACT Government's next budget

What do you think the ACT Government should be spending money on for our schools? Council is busy preparing our submission to the ACT budget process and would love to hear your ideas and suggestions about what you'd like to see in the Territory's next budget. Obviously, we'll be continuing with the priorities we formulated for the recent election, but new ideas are welcome too. Please contact Maclaren Wall by December 1.

Grants: equipment for volunteers

Grants from the Australian Government of between $1,000 and $5,000 are now available to P&Cs to support their volunteers. The grant money can be used to purchase small equipment and items which benefit volunteers or to fund volunteer petrol costs or training. Details and applications are online and due by December 20. Check out Council's tips on applying for grants.

Free driving course

There are still spots available in Ford's driving skills course for newly-licensed drivers and their parents. Usually the course costs $250, but this is FREE with thanks to ACCSO.
December 2, 3 and 4 at Exhibition Park in Mitchell. .

Teaching awards

Do you know an outstanding teacher or principal who deserves greater recognition? Nominate them now for the new Commonwealth Bank Teaching Awards, supported by Australian Schools Plus. They’ll be in the running for a $45,000 award, including $30,000 for a project at their school.  Nominations close on November 30.
