Your 'To Do' list

Just a friendly reminder that the following are due by the end of June. You may wish to have a look at our annual 'To Do' list.
  • Council membership fees (affiliation fees). Many thanks to those P&Cs who have already sent their payments.
  • Insurance payments (to Civic Insurance).
  • June 30 is also the final deadline for submitting your Annual Information Statement to the ACNC. This applies only to P&Cs registered as charities with the ACNC. If you are confused, check this FAQ.

Effective P&C workshop Cancelled

Unfortunately, due to low numbers, we have had to cancel the Effective P&C workshop scheduled for Thursday night this week (June 8). We'll be contacting those who did wish to come over the coming days and offering one-to-one chats to answer all your questions about running the P&C and take you through the resources presented at the workshop. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience.

Grants!

Our website includes a list of grants for which P&Cs can apply, including:

Road safety

Do you have an idea to make Canberra’s roads safer? Apply before June 18 for ACT Road Safety Fund Grant. The grants can provide funding for a range of activities including road safety programs, road safety education and public awareness campaigns, research and investigations on road safety issues. One focus area is vulnerable road users and schools are welcome to apply (Chapman Primary received one last year).

Children's week

The ACT Children's week committee offers small seeding grants up to $200 to assist in organising activities for Children's Week (21 - 29 October).  Events should increase awareness of the needs, interest, rights and achievements of children and promote community involvement and cooperation. Apply here before August 28.

Gardens

Yates Junior Landcare Gardening is offering 15 grants for fun, hands-on garden projects that will help young people learn about gardening, sustainability and our natural environment. The grants comprise $1,500 funding, plus $500 of Yates garden products and a consultant to come to your school. They will be awarded to the most creative, sustainable and environmentally-conscious entries received by June 29.

Complaints

Council has been asked to comment on Education Directorate documents concerning their complaints process. If any parents have feedback on the Directorate's complaints procedure, we would appreciate hearing from them so that we can best represent your experiences. Please send comments to us by 9am Tuesday, June 13.

Promoting healthy choices at your canteen

Due to low numbers, we have had to cancel the proposed Canteen Subcommittee meeting on Wednesday June 21.  But we would still like input from canteens and P&Cs running them about a range of exciting new materials and images which have been created to help promote healthy choices to your canteen customers. If you can spare half an hour to have a look at the materials and let us know how you might imagine using them, please let us know and a Council staff member will come to you to discuss. Council is looking to produce and distribute the items you think will most help your canteen!

Board member information

The Education Directorate will hold an information session for school board members on Tuesday 20 June 2017, from 5pm to 7pm at the Centre for Teaching and Learning, 51 Fremantle Drive, Stirling. The information session will provide an overview of roles and responsibilities of school boards and members, as well as opportunity for discussion with guest speakers. Please register your attendance for catering purposes by email or call Lejla Nikolas on 6207 6846.
