Special mention - Macquarie!

A special mention and big thumbs up for Macquarie Primary School P&C for being the first P&C to complete their Office Bearers' Form this year!

Sharing expertise from our P&Cs

At Council we are constantly impressed by the great ideas and enthusiasm of our members (that's you... all the public school P&Cs in the ACT). We are really keen for P&Cs to learn from each other and not  reinvent the wheel so we help share your collective wisdom:
  • by connecting you via special-interest working groups which generally operate by email and are a great source of knowledge and answers to questions on topic such as uniform shops and canteens
  • through highlighting great P&C ideas and endeavours in our 'At Our P&C' series of article from our regular magazine
  • via social media - we share posts from other P&Cs and are happy to post your questions for our eager audience to chime in on (join us on Facebook or Twitter)
  • at our meetings - the perfect place to meet other people in a similar situation to yourself.

Council General Meeting summary

At our General Meeting last week we first heard from senior staff at the Education Directorate about planning for growing school enrolments. In discussing matters from delegates the meeting showed support for a prohibition on students using their mobile phones in class, decided to hold a Parent Forum this year on Violence in Schools (date to be advised), discussed the effectiveness of parent representatives on school boards, and more. There are more details in the meeting summary. Our next meeting is listed below.

Your experience with the NDIS

The ACT Government’s Disability Reference Group is preparing a submission to the ACT Parliamentary Inquiry into the implementation, performance and governance of the NDIS. The Group is keen to capture a range of community voices and experiences to include in the submission.  If you or a family member has had some experience with the NDIS they would love to hear from you. You can have your say via an online survey, by dropping into a face-to-face consultation session on March 13 or via the InvolveCBR Facebook page. See all the details here.

Reach out to help your teen

ReachOut is a leading mental health organisation for parents of teens. They have practical support, tools and tips to help you best support your teen, as well as Apps to quickly find the most relevant help for your situation. Everything is evidence based to help parents and young people cope with tough times. They also offer free over the phone coaching sessions for parents.

See the 'Help for Parents' page of our website for more useful resources for parents.
