P&Cs need to know...

Thanks to You!

We wish all our members, the volunteers, committee members, office bearers, sausage turners and bakers a safe and restful school holiday period and look forward to welcoming you back in the New Year. Your efforts make our schools more vibrant, welcoming, rich, and community-centred and we thank you all.

To help you thank your volunteers, we have this Certificate of Appreciation (just add the names), on behalf of Council and the new Director General of ACT Education Directorate, Katy Haire.

Help over the break

This is the last Communicator for 2019 - we'll be back around the time school resumes in 2020 with all the information you need!

Our office is closed from 2:30pm next Thursday (19 December) until 9:30am on Tuesday January 28. From January 13, our office will be attended a few times a week to deal with any urgent enquiries - we will aim to get back to you within a week.

Meanwhile, we hope you can find the answers to most of your questions on our website. Some good places to look:

Canteen refresh

Before you decide on your canteen menu for next year, you might find these resources useful:
  • Recipes for healthy additions to your menu (with Amber/Green ratings) from Nutrition Australia or Healthy Kids Association (you won't be able to see this page unless you are a HKA member - to keep being a member, reply to the email you should have received recently from HKA and Council will pay in January, contact us if you are unsure.)
  • Professional, enticing pictures of menu items to add to your school newsletter or Social Media feed to increase sales. (Paired with recipes and a video to show you how to make them!) Our experience tells us that families don't always know what great food the P&C canteen offers, and this can help.
  • Matching posters, packaging stickers and menu banner to give your canteen a consistent look and feel - a fresh look to entice new customers for your healthy foods.

Canteen rethink

Is your P&C rethinking the canteen business? There are other options available for the school such as using an external canteen provider, an onsite private business, a canteen service from another school or a local food business. ACT Health’s Fresh Tastes team has more information to help decide. Contact them to talk through the options on 02 5124 9516 or email.

Quick online canteen course

The short online Go For Green course is now available on the Fresh Tastes webpages. The course is targeted at canteen and school staff to familiarise them with using Go for Green to classify foods and drink. Those who complete the course before 31 December go into the draw to win a prize of eco-friendly packaging for their canteen!
