P&Cs need to know...

Thanks... and Goodbye??

We'd like to say a massive THANKS to each and every P&C volunteer. It's been a tough year and we know that you are the life-blood of your associations and school communities. We are amazed and inspired by all you give, and what you achieve.

If you're not planning to be on your P&C next year, simply hit Unsubscribe at the bottom of this email to stop getting our bulletins.

School banking

School banking has been in the headlines again, with Victorian schools banning the programs offered by banks in favour of curriculum-based financial management teaching. We know that many P&Cs in the ACT administer school banking programs run by banks, so we would like to know what you think. Please click on the option which most closely aligns to your position, or drop us a line with your thoughts!
School banking is important to our community
The funds from school banking are important to our P&C
 Both of the above
School banking is not of much interest to us
We'd like to move away from school banking provided by a commercial bank
Teaching financial literacy in the classroom is important

Audit

If you missed our Financial Review workshop last week, it is still possible to find out all you need to know about this regulatory requirement for all P&Cs by watching the workshop recording or taking a look at our other resources - see help with your annual review.

We still have P&Cs looking to pair with others in our Book Swap scheme to save you expensive auditor's fees. Contact us if you are interested.

Preparing for 2021

This article steps you through the things you need to think about between now and the beginning of school next year.

Thanking your volunteers

Before the year is out, take a moment to say thanks to your team to keep your volunteers keen!  See Thanking Your Volunteers to download celebration graphics, certificates of appreciation and more.

School Boards

It has come to our attention that the Education Directorate has sent an email directly to P&Cs about next year’s school board elections and changes to parent representatives on the Board.

The copy of the email that we have seen does not align with Council’s previous discussions with the Directorate about these Board changes, nor with our expectations around any revised process. We have sought an urgent meeting with the Directorate to clarify.

We plan to provide clear advice to all our members early next year. In the meantime, there’s no reason to rush through changes to your constitution, though it is always our advice that P&Cs should have a copy of their constitution available to refer to.

Plastic cutlery in canteens

The ACT Government is likely to ban the sale and supply of single-use plastic cutlery and stirrers, plus polystyrene takeaway food and beverage containers from 1 July next year. This is worth keeping in mind if you are reordering supplies for your canteen over the break, as non-plastic/polystyrene alternatives are available from most suppliers.

Council Office closure

Our office will be closed for much of the school break - from Friday 18 December at 2:30pm until 9:30am Wednesday 27 January 2021.

From January 11, staff will attend the office twice a week to check on messages, so if you need assistance over this time, please send a message and we will get back to you within a week.
Council happenings...

Changes to Council Executive team

At our AGM last week, new Executive Committee members were elected. Alison Elliott (Macgregor Primary P&C) is the new Council President, and Siann Ansori (Kaleen Primary P&C) and Nadia Swanepoel (Amaroo School P&C) join us as new executive Committee members. Thank you dear volunteers!

We'd also like to say a big thank you to Andrew Bidwell and Crystal Cox, long standing members of our Executive Committee, who are stepping down. And to Kirsty McGovern-Hooley who has led the team wonderfully as President for the past 3 years and who is stepping back to Vice-President this year. Thanks to you all!
