Cake and food stalls
With election BBQs a hot topic just now, it is worth noting that P&Cs operating food stalls which are fundraisers, (not ongoing canteen services) and staffed by volunteers are no longer required to register the event nor have an appointed Food Safety Supervisor. Food safety guidelines for fundraising stalls run by community groups such as P&Cs are available from ACT Health.

Me & my school: engaging migrant families forum
Council has teamed up with the ACT Principals Association and Companion House to host a forum to help schools create a sense of belonging for migrant and refugee parents and students. The forum is a chance for principals to hear directly from migrant parents and students as well as share experience and best practice with other school leaders. All parents are welcome (RSVP to Glenn on 6251 4550) and encouraged to ask questions and share experiences. It is on Thursday June 9 from 2 to 4pm at the Centre for Teaching and Learning, 51 Fremantle Drive, Stirling. Afternoon tea is provided and the event is free.
P&Cs are asked to alert migrant and refugee parents in their community about the event. Event flyers can be downloaded and printed if needed.

Anti-bullying tool
Reword is a new online anti-bullying tool that works as a plug in app in a similar way to spellcheck across a range of devices and platforms. It gives a real-time prompt if potentially inappropriate words or phrases are typed - a red line appears though the word. This is a signal for the user to reconsider their choice of words and informs their future use. There’s more information in this media release, and a clip of Chris Tanti, the CEO of Headspace, introducing the tool here. It may be something your school wishes to explore.

Canberra transport survey
The ACT Government is giving Canberrans the opportunity to have their say on future transport planning across our city. An online survey asks people what is working well, what could work better and where changes could be made to encourage more people to use public transport. The results will help the ACT Government understand how and why Canberrans use different modes of transport. Feel free to pass it on!
