COVID changes: schools
Details for current school operations are available on the Education Directorate website. Changes beginning this week include:
- Masks no longer required by students in High schools and Colleges
- Students who cannot learn from home can attend school in the case that someone in their household is COVID-positive. They must have no symptoms, wear a mask and have a negative RAT test before attending (and every 48 hours)
- The Vacccine Mandate for staff and volunteers no longer applies.
Thanks for those who provided feedback to us on these changes, we were able to represent parent views to the ACT Government and in the media.

COVID changes: P&C activities
We regularly update our COVID Information for P&Cs - so head there anytime for up-to-date regulations and resources. Note the following changes:
- P&C meetings can now be held on schools sites
- The vaccination mandate no longer applies to P&C staff and volunteers. We have amended our COVID-safe plan templates to reflect this.
- More fundraising events are permitted, with a COVID safe plan:
- Contactless fundraisers on school sites at any time
- Other fundraising events and activities outside of school hours.

Pupil free days - an opportunity!
During Term 2, each school will schedule two pupil free days as part of a range of measures to help manage teacher workload, following extra pressure and duties due to staff shortages.
While never wholly popular with parents😉these days could be an opportunity for your P&C to run a community event to help reconnect school families and have a bit of fun.
How about a playdate or picnic?
Some kids activities?
A neighbourhood treasure hunt?

Election day food stalls
If your P&C is running an election day stall, check out the current COVID requirements and COVID-safe plan template.
Free publicity
We are compiling a list of school sites offering a democracy sausage (and more!) which we know the media will be interested in. If you haven't already let us know about your election day offerings, send us an email to be included in this free publicity.
Free snags for teachers
Just a little idea we heard around the traps: the offer of a free sausage sandwich on election day could be a lovely way for your P&C to show parent gratitude for staff at your school, recognising how challenging recent times have been.

It's insurance time!
P&C insurance questionnaires will sent out this week directly from the broker (Civic Insurance). Use these to review your P&C's current insurance needs, depending on your planned activities, and any operations run by the P&C. You must complete the form as thoroughly as you are able, and declare all likely activities. Invoices will be issued in June based on the needs you identify in the questionnaire. Payments are due by June 30.
If you need assistance, contact us or come along to our training...

Ask for help
Avoid P&C committee burn out! Don’t do it all yourself!
Break tasks into smaller jobs and call for specific volunteers (call it micro-volunteering!). Promote the benefits of helping and what you'll achieve.
Remember also that Council is also here to help. See our extensive resources or contact our office with your questions.
