Students and technology: have your say
The Education Directorate is looking for feedback from parents about the use of IT in schools, parent knowledge of online security and related issues. The short survey will close on Tuesday October 27 and findings will be included in a report being prepared for the Minister on students and technology.
Please circulate this as widely as possible.

Canteen Food Safety Supervisor course
Nutrition Australia's Food Safety Supervisor course is on again this term. This Nationally Recognised Training prepares staff to oversee canteen operations and prevent and recognise food safety hazards. All canteens must have a qualified Food Safety Supervisor. The course is tailored for school canteens.
The one day course costs $220 and lunch and morning tea are provided. It is on Thursday November 5 from 9:30am to 4pm at the Chifley Health and Wellbeing Hub. For information or to register, email or call 6162 2583.

Special needs transport
The Education Directorate has developed a new factsheet for parents and carers about how the National Disability Insurance Scheme impacts on student transport. This factsheet will be sent directly to families in the coming weeks along with a copy of the application form for transport assistance in 2016.

I-Day grants
Grants of up to $5000 are available to help organisations to host events which celebrate I-Day - the International Day of People with Disability. I-Day is held on December 3 each year and events should create inclusive opportunities for people with disability, showcase their skills, contributions and achievements, or raise awareness and understanding of disability issues. Applications close October 28.

Lighting it red
Tomorrow (Thursday October 15) a national Dyslexia Awareness event is taking place called ‘ Light it Red for Dyslexia’. The event is a pre-launch for ‘Dyslexia Empowerment Week’, October 18 to 24. Many buildings and structures around Australia, including Telstra Tower will be lit up for this event.

ACTION bus timetable changes postponed
The changes to ACTION's school bus services noted in our last Communicator bulletin (due to take effect Monday October 12) are now no longer going ahead. All timetables and routes remain unchanged.

- Council General Meeting, Tuesday October 27, 6:45 for 7pm start. Ends 9:30pm. 51 Fremantle Drive, Stirling. All welcome. A guest speaker will outline promotion strategies for ACT public schools.
- Canteen sub-committee meeting, Wednesday October 28, 7pm, 100 Maitland St, Hackett. A chance to share expertise and information among P&C-run canteens. All welcome.
- Council's Annual General Meeting (AGM), Tuesday November 24.
