Need help with your constitution?

Is your P&C's constitution out of date? Does it no longer reflect the way your P&C works? Does it comply with the required structure?  Our free, hands-on workshop will help you review, rewrite or amend your constitution. You can bring your P&C's constitution so we can work through the specific content and wording needed. We’ll look at the model rules, the Associations Act, Council’s sample P&C constitution and the process of passing an amended constitution through your P&C.

It is on Thursday May 4, from 7-9pm. Details here. Please contact us to book your attendance.

Insurance renewal questionnaire

Treasurers (and immediate past treasurers) have been sent insurance renewal questionnaires last week from Civic Insurance, the brokers of Council's group insurance scheme.  P&C treasurers, in conjunction with the committee, must carefully review their insurance needs and fill out the questionnaire accurately and comprehensively.

In order to make sure your insurance covers your P&C properly, you must fully disclose all P&C operations, events, and so on, including accurate total numbers of people to be covered by the policy. If you fail to disclose an activity or cover sufficient numbers, future claims may not be honoured. Any queries, please contact David McAlary at Civic Insurance or our office

Making your P&C effective

If you couldn't make it to our Effective P&C Workshop last term, don't worry! We will be repeating this popular and informative workshop on Thursday June 8. The Workshop covers ways to improve how your association works, recruiting volunteers, fundraising, improving meetings, and the P&C as an employer.  Plenty of time is allowed for your questions. Details here. Contact us to register your attendance.

If you still can't come, then you can check out the presentation from the workshop and all the resources on our website.

NAPLAN to stay offline this year

This year's NAPLAN tests were to be conducted online for the first time. However, ACARA, who run the tests, announced last week that 2017 NAPLAN will now use paper tests, as in previous years, and that online testing will not commence until 2018.

Reduced red tape?

P&Cs registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) may have received an email at the end of last term advising of proposed changes to their reporting obligations (the current arrangement of annual reports to both ORS and ACNC would be replaced with just the ACNC online return). Council is looking into the implications of the proposed changes and will advise P&Cs in due course.

Parent feedback wanted: Student Wellbeing Hub

The National Safe Schools Framework (not to be confused with the Safe Schools Coalition), which produces the Student Wellbeing Hub is seeking parent feedback on their activities through an online survey. The Framework provides Australian schools with a vision and a set of guiding principles to help them develop positive and practical student safety and wellbeing policies. The survey takes around 15 minutes to complete.

Support at preschool

The Education Directorate's Support at Preschool Program works with schools to make adjustments required to support the inclusion of children with disability or developmental delay in ACT preschools. See this fact sheet or contact the Support at Preschool team on (02) 6205 7903.

Free autism workshop for families

Like all school-age students, children on the autism spectrum benefit from strong, positive relationships between the home and school. Positive Partnerships uses evidence based materials and practical resources to help support these relationships by facilitating workshops for parents and carers. This workshop is on Tuesday May 2. Register here.

Nature Play CBR is hosting outdoor play expert Adam Bienenstock for a free community information session exploring the benefits of natural playgrounds and how to use them as another learning environment to enable and facilitate optimal child development. The session is suitable for parents, educators and decisions makers and runs from 3:30pm on Thursday May 11.

Mission Australia has just launched the Youth Survey 2017, which gives voice to the concerns, values and thoughts of young people aged 15-19 across Australia.
