Growing your P&C
Getting new parents involved in your P&C is vital, especially at this time of year when new committees are being formed. Check out our Information Sheet on Growing your P&C for advice. We also have a template letters and brochure which you can adapt to introduce parents at your school to the wonders of your P&C.

Finishing up on the P&C?
If your role on the P&C is ending, it is important to equip your successor with the tools they need for the job. It will greatly improve the way your P&C runs if there are good handover notes. See our sample handover notes for Presidents and Secretaries (sample notes for Treasurers coming soon!) to adapt to suit your school. We also have an Information Sheet on helping new office bearers.

WWVP registers
Most P&Cs are now aware of the legal requirement for all P&C employees and regular volunteers to hold a valid Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) card. However, there is some confusion over the need to keep track of volunteers' WWVP status and maintain registers of volunteers. Council has confirmed with the Education Directorate that it is the school's responsibility to administer the volunteer sign-in process, including WWVP status.
P&Cs should remind all volunteers to enter via the school office and sign in using the school's processes. Office staff may need to sight the WWVP card. Some schools have additional Volunteer Nomination forms that should be completed. P&Cs and canteens are not required to keep a register of volunteers’ WWVP status. It is, however, the P&C’s responsibility to ensure that any staff employed by the association do have their WWVP registration. See our WWVP information sheet for more information.

ACNC webinar for P&C charities
If your P&C is registered as a charity with the Australian Charities and Not for Profits Commission (ACNC), and you need help with your obligations and paperwork, their upcoming webinar may help. The webinar will run on March 21 and will help P&Cs understand their relationship with the ACNC. This is a great opportunity for newly elected committee members to learn about their P&C’s obligations to the ACNC.

Registered charities 'tick'
P&C associations that are registered as charities with the Australian Charities and Not for Profits Commission (ACNC), can apply to receive and use a Registered Charities tick logo. This can be printed on P&C association communications, promotional materials, letterhead and electronic media/communications. Its aim is to help publicly identify such associations as registered charities.

Parliament of Youth on Sustainability
SEE Change invites all ACT schools to take part in the 2017 Parliament of Youth on Sustainability. The topic: What is one action we should take to reduce Canberra’s ecological footprint? At the one day all-age student Parliament on May 29, student teams meet in year group committees to present their proposals for action and vote on the best to take to Canberra’s politicians. Teacher training sessions on how to incorporate it in curriculum run in February, so schools should register now.
