Welcome back to Term 2, and a special welcome to all the new P&C office bearers for 2016 for whom this may be the first 'Council Communicator' - our fortnightly bulletin of useful information for ACT public school P&Cs.

Resources for P&Cs

Our website is packed with useful resources to help you run your P&C well. Our comprehensive collection of information sheets cover all of your burning questions, and some you hadn't thought to ask yet! (They are also available on USB, along with all our templates and pro-formas, simply contact us to request one.)

We also aim to share expertise from one P&C to another, so if there is something your P&C does well, please let us know and we'll pass it on so that others can benefit.

Food Safety Supervisor Course

Nutrition Australia is again running a one day recognised training course to prepare school canteen Food Safety Supervisors to oversee day to day operations and to prevent and recognise food safety hazards.

It is on Monday May 16 from 9:30am - 4:30pm at the Chifley Health and Wellbeing Hub and costs $220. Register online by  Tuesday May 10 or call 6162 2583 or email Nutrition Australia for more information.

School Disco Organiser Guide

Planning a school disco? This new free Organiser Guide from 'The Fundraising Directory' is well worth a look. The 14 page ebook is full of helpful insights and tips for getting the most out of your school disco including timing, fire safety, logistics, themes, games, add-on fundraising and more.

Cyber safety - parent survey

University researchers want to understand more about parent perceptions of children’s online behaviour and protection. They hope to use the information to explore ways to reduce the risks to children, contribute to the design of safer information systems, and provide guidelines to protect children from the negative impact of the Internet. Their survey should only take 12 minutes to complete and they would love to hear from as many parents as possible, so feel free to pass it on!

Positive Partnerships - for parents of children on the autism spectrum

The ACT Positive Partnerships program will be running a free workshop on Wednesday May 4 (9:15am-3pm) for parents and carers of school-age children on the autism spectrum.  The workshops are a great opportunity to understand how to help your child learn, build and maintain an effective home/school partnership and work with the school to develop shared goals. It is also an opportunity to connect with other parents. Register online. Email with queries or call 1300 881 971.
