P&Cs in 2022!
Thanks to everyone who sent in an image of their P&C's highlight for the year. The video we put together from them is a heart-warming journey through the wonderful world of P&Cs, and all the value you add to our schools.

Council would like to say an enormous Thank You to everyone who volunteered for their P&C or Council this year.
To say it best, here's council President, Alison Elliott, in her Annual President's Report:
On reflection, 2022, whilst another challenging year for parents, staff and students, saw a return to some kind of normal. We saw P&Cs return to their usual fundraising activities, helping reconnect communities. Parents are back on school grounds and face-to-face parent teacher interviews are occurring once again, something parents really value.
I thank our amazing team in the office, and a very engaged Executive Committee, who share my passion around ensuring all students have the best education experience possible. Council’s workload did increase again during 2022, and I thank them for their constant support.
I thank the community and our members for trusting Council, and myself, to be their voice, and for sharing their ideas, concerns and opinions. I thank all the P&C volunteers out there for the time you give and all you do.
I look forward to 2023, and encourage parents to join Council meetings, and help advocate for our children’s education and wellbeing.

Look into the future!
In your future... we see... an AGM...!
Take a few moments to look ahead and prepare now, and you'll thank yourself next year!
Start thinking about:
1. Your AGM date - most P&Cs hold their Annual General Meeting in Term 1, but because you need to give notice of the meeting it's best to set the date this year (check your constitution for the amount of notice needed).
2. Preparing your finances for review - after December 31, treasurers will need to finalise the books, prepare a report, and take them to a reviewer to sign them off. This must be completed at least two weeks before the AGM, so start now if you haven't already. Find out everything you need to know here.

Treasurers: Book Swap
Treasurers of small P&Cs (gross receipts less than $400,000 pa), if you haven't got a reviewer lined up, why not sign up for a Book Swap? This is where two treasurers review each other's books to avoid paying for expensive auditors. We provide resources to help treasurers do a financial review of the P&C's accounts with whom they have 'swapped' books.
If you'd like to be involved, simply fill in this form before Friday 9th and we will allocate you a swap partner this term!

Thank you postcard
Saying 'thanks' to volunteers is so important (and we have resources to help you!).
This year, Council found an inexpensive way to let our volunteers know how much we appreciate them. We added a small chocolate to a simple postcard we created in Canva. The postcard design is now part of our P&C Promo Pack so that you can use it too!

Council office closed for holidays
Our office will close for the majority of the school holidays, reopening on January 23, a week before school returns.
After January 9, we will check emails and messages at least once a week in case any members have urgent enquiries.

Canteen internet
Council's Canteen subcommittee identified internet provision in canteens as an ongoing issue, so we have pursued solutions!
Great news!
The Education Directorate have agreed to provide internet access for P&C-run canteens. If your canteen does not have internet provided by the school, please send Council a message and we will refer you on to the Directorate for resolution.

Looking ahead

Before the end-of-year rush descends on your volunteers, it pays to look ahead to the new year.
Make sure your P&C is ready to see out this year and welcome in the new with this helpful advice.

Youth gambling
We're looking for a parent or carer in the ACT interested in the area of online youth gambling.
The Australian National University's Centre for Gambling Research are creating an Advisory Group for a study relating to young adults gambling online in the ACT.
Council has been offered a seat on the advisory group, but as it is beyond the scope of our usual work, we are looking for a parent who might wish to take up the position.
It is the first study to examine the online gambling and potential gambling harm of young people living/working/studying in the ACT. The Advisory Group will play a central role in how the study is set-up and run and how findings are shared. The Group will meet four times between February 2023 and early 2024 for 1-2 hours to hear your advice, and feedback as the project progresses.
Contact Council if you'd like to be nominated.

Travelling on Country

Travelling this summer? You can find out what Country you are travelling on and learn a little about it! There's an App for that (of course!). ABC also have a local language map, where you can hear each language being spoken. Use the AIATSIS Map of Indigenous Australia to get your bearings.
