Future of Education
As you probably already know, the ACT Government is consulting widely on ‘What do we want from our schools and how do we achieve that?’ Their conversation will inform a strategy for the future of education in the ACT. All parents are encouraged to be involved and have their say. You can keep in touch with the process online or by following the Education Directorate on Twitter or Facebook or by watching the hashtag #EducationforthenextGeneration. P&Cs may like to facilitate sessions where parents can discuss what it is they see for the future of education and what is important to them. Materials to help direct and spark conversation are available.
Council will be compiling a significant submission and we welcome input from your P&C, or any interested parents. Email our Policy Officer, Veronica Elliott, with your ideas and suggestions.

Affiliation fees due now
Many thanks to the P&C association who have already paid their Council membership (affiliation) fees for the next 12 months. Council uses these funds to help and to represent you - our member P&Cs. (Read more about the benefits of membership here.)
There are still a number of P&Cs who have not yet paid. Invoices for Council affiliation fees were emailed and posted to P&C treasurers in early May and are now overdue. Please contact our office if you have any questions.

Cafe style canteens for colleges and high schools
Would your school benefit from a cafe-style transformation for your canteen, like this one? A unique opportunity exists for a limited number of schools to be supported through the process in 2018. The project could be totally out-sourced (the project is hoping to provide funds to assist, but P&Cs/schools will need to provide some of the funds) or developed, designed and constructed in-school as part of a curriculum subject at the school – or a combination which suits the school (eg with assistance from wood-tech students or parent working-bees).
It is still in the planning stages, but ACT Health is now taking expressions of interest.

ACT doctor services survey
The Health Care Consumers’ Association (HCCA) want to hear about your experiences using general practice and after-hours doctors services in the ACT. These services include GPs, walk-in centres, CALMS (Canberra Afterhours Locum Medical Service), the National Home Doctor Service (13 SICK) and hospital emergency departments. HCCA is trying to understand which health care services people choose and why, and how satisfied they are with the care they receive. The aim is to identify areas for improvement.
Everyone’s views on health care are important, so please complete the survey. It takes approximately 10min to complete and answers are anonymous.
