Officer Bearers' Form

Now that your new P&C committee has been elected, please let us know who they are, using our Office Bearers' Form. You're our members and we are here to help, but we do need to have up-to-date contact details for all your P&C office bearers. If you've just left the P&C, please urge the new committee to complete the form. Thanks!
And many thanks to those P&Cs who have already done so.

Free training

We've been in the P&C game for a while and have learnt a few tricks. Come along to our workshops to answer all your P&C related questions... and some you've not yet asked!

Effective P&C Workshop: the perfect workshop for all office bearers to find out more about managing the P&C well. From 'what is our P&C all about' to employing staff; from promoting what you do to running meetings well; the session is a chance to hear from P&C veterans and meet others in the same position as yourself.
Thursday April 5, 6:30-9:00pm, repeated Tuesday May 1 (6:30-9:00pm) in Stirling.

Treasurer and Insurance Workshop: all treasurers should attend to find out more about the insurance package Council coordinates for P&Cs, as well as important considerations and details for performing the job of treasurer successfully and as easily as possible.
Thursday April 12,  7-9:30pm in Stirling.

For more information or to sign up online for any of these training sessions, see our website.

Welcome new delegates!

Being Council delegate for your school is an important and interesting role. Our General Meeting on Tuesday next week (27th, at 51 Fremantle Dr, Stirling) will start with a welcome session at 6:30pm where new delegates can get up to speed and chat with some veterans. The meeting will also hear from the ACT Principal's Association on how P&Cs and principals can work together.

Canteen support

The canteen support page of our website has recently been re-organised and updated to point you more quickly to the great resources and supports available for canteens in the ACT.

Canteen coordinators, treasurers and managers are also welcome to come along to our canteen committee meeting for an update on all things relating to canteens, to discuss issues and problems, and for a chance to meet others in the same position. It's on Wednesday next week (28th) at 7pm, 100 Maitland Street Hackett. RSVP is appreciated but not essential.

Recognise your volunteers

Nominating your school's dedicated helpers for the 2018 Volunteering Awards is a wonderful way to show your appreciation. All nominees are invited to a fabulous Awards Ceremony. Nominations close April 6.

Changes for P&Cs employing staff

From July next year (2019), all employees will have to use the ATO's (tax office) 'single touch' payroll system when paying their employees. The system aligns your reporting obligations with your payroll processes, so that information is submitted to the ATO each payroll and you will no longer have to provide group certificates (payment summaries) or fill in a quarterly Information Activity Statement (IAS) (this only applies if you currently complete an IAS and are not GST registered). While there is plenty of transition time, do come along to our Free Treasurer workshop on April12 to find out more.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families - how well do our schools engage?

The ACT Audit Office is investigating how well our schools currently engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Families. If you have something you would like to say, you are welcome to join us in our meeting with the Audit Office (place and time can be arranged to suit you). Contact us if you wish to attend. Alternatively, you can simply email your comments for us to pass on. Please extend this offer to other families in your school community.

Safe and Inclusive schools

The ACT Safe and Inclusive Schools Initiative was launched last week. It provides information and support to schools and parents on including members of their community who are gender diverse or same-sex attracted. It's the place to go if you don't feel confident discussing gender diversity with your kids. Parents of children questioning their gender/sexuality can also directly access support. P&Cs can also request information or even an information session for their community.

Child care subsidy changes

From July this year the current federal Child Care Rebate and Child Care Benefit will be replaced by a single Child Care Subsidy. The level of Child Care Subsidy will depend on combined family income, the activity level of both parents (based on the parent who does the least amount of activity) and the type of child care the family uses. Find out more and estimate your subsidy.

Canteen position vacant

Mount Rogers' Primary School is looking for a new part-time canteen manager. Applications close March 28. See the details.

Pass it on!

We strive to provide information of interest to all school parents in the Council Communicator. If you think any of the items above are of interest to parents at your school, please pass them on via your school newsletter or whatever other means you wish. We would be grateful if you would share the call for input from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families in particular.

We now have a template page for school newsletters to make it easier for you to cut and paste items to submit to your school newsletter under the P&C Council banner if you wish to use it when sharing information with your school community..
