Your AGM

Remember that we have resources to help you prepare for and run your AGM, including:
  • information sheets
  • checklists
  • template agenda and minutes
  • templates for president's report
  • help preparing your accounts.
We also have resources to help you promote your P&C if you are having trouble filling positions.

P&Cs should also consider the suitability of people who nominate for executive roles at the AGM. As an incorporated association, certain people are unable to act as office bearers (for example, those facing insolvency). The simplest way to address this is to include a short declaration of suitability along side a form nominating for the position. This helps protect your P&C from fraud. We have a nomination and declaration form ready for you to use.

After the AGM - reporting

After the AGM, your P&C must report to government. Our 'To Do'  list has the details.

You also need to let Council know who is on your new committee so that we can support them throughout the year. Do so by filling in our Office Bearers form. Please complete the form even if your committee remains the same.

After the AGM - handing over well

If your role on the P&C is ending, make sure your valuable knowledge is not lost! Try to provide the new committee with everything you wished you had when you started! The best place to start is a good set of handover notes, and of course, we have a sample set your P&C can use.

You may wish to no longer receive this email bulletin from Council. If so, please use the 'unsubscribe' link at the bottom. Thanks!

Recognise your volunteers!

Nominations are now open for the 2018 Volunteering Awards. Nominating your dedicated volunteers is a wonderful way to show your appreciation. All nominees will be invited to a fabulous Awards Ceremony at the National Arboretum for a spectacular evening.

Grants

Some grants for which your P&C may be eligible to apply:
Our website includes tips and samples to help you with your grant.

Highschool canteen facelifts!

Is your canteen and dining space in need of a face-lift? Your high school or college could be part of Create-a-Café: It’s Your Move!

ACT Health is working with Council and YMCA Canberra to transform five school dining spaces in 2018.  Schools will have access to the award-winning Entrepreneurs: IYM design-thinking curriculum to empower students to take the lead, using design thinking. Talk to your principal and register the school's interest by email or phone 6205 9470.

Bus and transport issues

Following enquiries made by Council about a number of issues relating to buses, we have received a response from Transport Canberra outlining the following:
  • Disability awareness training for drivers, previously involving Council members, will now be conducted solely by Transport Canberra staff/trainers.
  • On school excursions, three primary or pre-school aged children may be seated across a single bench seat.
  • Transport Canberra's fleet do not have seatbelts.
  • The use of taxis for transporting students with complex needs to/from school is very carefully considered and restricted.
All interested parents are encouraged to report to Council any future problems with buses, drivers or special needs transport.

Fundraising resources

The 'Fundraising Whisperer' has launched a new VIP Membership Portal which contains a huge collection of downloads and templates for committee and fundraising activities - from marketing and publicity, to finance and admin. They really are great resources and well worth a look, and joining is free. For great fundraising information and ideas, we can also recommend following The Fundraising Whisperer on Facebook.
