P&Cs need to know...

Election stalls. Sorry. No.

As you may already be aware, Elections ACT has released the list of polling places for final day polling (October 17) for the upcoming ACT election. It includes many schools.

Over the last couple of days we have been seeking clarification on conflicting advice on whether P&Cs can hold fundraising stalls and if so, under what conditions. Unfortunately, the bottom line is 'no'. Fundraising stalls are not allowed. We have received this letter on the subject

We know this is blow to our member P&Cs.

Volunteer grants

The Federal Government's Supplementary Volunteer Grant can provide funds of between $1,000 & $5,000 to support your volunteers, encourage and increase participation in volunteering, and help re-engage people/adapt what you do post-COVID. Applications Close Sept 20.

P&C constitution template - updated

We have updated our template P&C constitution to take into account recent legislative changes. It's designed to be used as a basis for your association's constitution - make the changes you need where indicated. The sections on Conflict of Interest and Dispute Resolution have been strengthened and changed. In the next month or so (as soon as we have the staff resources) we will create resources (eg forms for members to declare a conflict and information sheets and guidelines) to help you manage Conflict of Interest in line with the legislative requirements.

Flyer to promote your P&C

We have two templates you can quickly pick up and adjust to tell your community about your P&C, what you do and how and why to get involved!  Ready to go - just add your specific details, print double-sided, and fold!

One is a word document (simple design elements but easy to edit).

The other was produced by a designer in Canva (online graphic design app) as part of our P&C Promo Pack so it looks great, and you tweak the words, design and change colours however you like, but you will need a Canva account.

Click on the pics here for a better look, but find the actual customisable templates and instructions on our website.

End of year events and graduations

Our office responded to enquiries from P&C about end of year events by discussing this with the Education Directorate. In turn, they have released this information for parents about how end of year events will look at bit different this year.

Bookpack promotion

If your P&C is involved in putting together Book Packs at your school, you might be interested in this promotion from Staedtler - you can win $1000 worth of stationery or $5000 cash.

Canteen Connect

Canteen Connect 2020 is going online!  It's on 20 October from 4-5 pm, and will include facilitated group sessions. You can now register for this great event where you can share with, and learn from, other canteens in Canberra. Now, more than ever, we need to connect! After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

The JobKeeper Payment, which was originally due to run until 27 September, will continue for eligible businesses and not-for-profits until 28 March 2021, however, the rates will be reduced, and you may no longer qualify. You will have to show that your actual turnover in the June and September quarters was significantly lower than the same period in 2019 (30% lower for most; 15% if your P&C is a registered charity). All the details on the Federal Treasury website and this factsheet. This article is also helpful.

If you have detailed questions, call the ATO Not-for-Profits helpline: 1300 130 248 or Canberra Business Advice and Support Service: 6297 3121.
