Visitors from Australia

EffecTech’s two Australian distributors, CAC, who sell calibration gases (www.cacgas.com.au)  and IAS, a systems integrator who will be offering instrument  validations (www.iaspl.com.au) visited in June to learn more about EffecTech’s products and services. The participants received intensive tutoring on calibration gases and performance evaluations in EffecTech’s Training Academy as well as completing practical exercises using operating gas chromatographs.

Stack Emissions Proficiency Testing Scheme (SEPTS)

EffecTech has now released the report from the first round of its Stack Emissions Proficiency Testing Scheme which can be found here: [PDF]

The Stack Emissions Proficiency Testing Scheme (SEPTS) is for companies providing stack testing services. Participation in the scheme ensures test houses comply with the ISO 17025 requirement for laboratories to assure the quality of their testing capabilities.

The 2016 round included 15 participants from 13 different companies and the overall performance was very good. To find out more about next year's scheme, which will run in May 2017, please see here or contact info@effectech.co.uk for more information.

Research Paper on Growth of Carbon Nanotubes

Research carried out at EffecTech’s laboratory is the basis of a new paper exploring the use of waste blast furnace gases to manufacture carbon nanotubes. The publication, entitled Growth of Carbon Nanotubes from Waste Blast Furnace Gases at Atmospheric Pressure, is based on research carried out for a PhD project in physical chemistry by Jagdeep Sagu. Sagu’s research found that the carbon nanotubes can be grown from carbon dioxide produced as a by-product of steel production.

If commercially applied, this process could reduce emissions of CO2, a major contributor to global warming, while manufacturing the nanotubes which have significant commercial value. Carbon emissions from industrial sources are of major global concern, especially contributions from the steel manufacturing process which accounts for the majority of emissions.

EffecTech assisted Jagdeep in his work by providing laboratory space and research materials. Jagdeep said “EffecTech played a vital role in this research project as they produced synthetic gas mixtures that resembled the composition of the waste blast furnaces released during the steel manufacturing process at Tata Steel. They provided me with lab space, a fume cupboard and gave me all the necessary safety equipment and training so I could undertake this research in a safe and effective manner. Dr Paul Holland supervised the project at EffecTech and gave me hands on training in gas chromatography and in the safe handling of gas cylinders containing toxic and flammable gases.”

LNG Sampling Systems Inspection Service in Accordance with ISO 8943

Customers wishing to ensure that their LNG sampling system is fit for purpose under a full range of conditions, can now take advantage of EffecTech’s LNG sampling systems inspection and audit service.

An experienced EffecTech engineer will complete a full inspection of the LNG sampling system against the requirements of ISO 8943. EffecTech will then provide a detailed compliance report highlighting any recommendations for change and adjustments.

Flow metering validation
Gas flow uncertainties are the dominant factor in the energy equation and regular validations will minimise mis-measurements and un-accounted for gas. EffecTech is an independent gas metering specialist with a wealth of experience gained from across the globe. We specialise in performing comprehensive and regular traceable validations of the entire metering system. We typically work with large consumers of gas such as power stations and other energy intensive industries including gas transmission and LNG terminal operators. learn more…
