Even in the biggest cities, you don’t need to go far to find good fish. On October 12, Professional Bass Fisherman, Mike Iaconelli, debuted his acclaimed series Fish My City on Nat Geo WILD which allows viewers to follow him around the globe on his quest to catch the best fish. However, Mike is not like other fisherman. He can catch fish anywhere and everywhere, including metropolitan areas such as lakes, ponds, canals, and sewers. Mike achieved this feat by catching catfish from a Philadelphia sewer, proving that he really can catch fish in any location at any time.

Sofitel Presents Eath Day Every Day
On November 5 Sofitel started its Earth Day Every Day initiative joining the Accor Planet 21, a sustainable development program for hotels. Placing value on recycling and composting the initiative will carry out for strategic priorities: work with its employees, involve its customers, innovate with its partners, and work with local communities. Sofitel also wants to encourage linen reuse to save energy and reduce waste. As part of the initiative, for guests who stay 2 nights or more, Sofitel will offer the chance to opt out of housekeeping services in exchange for $10 food and beverage credit. For every day that laundering sheets, or towels aren’t required, guests will be given the $10 credit. Guests staying four plus nights must be serviced on the 4th night per the law, and will not be given it that day. On the initiative Angela Bauer, General Manager of Sofitel stated “We want to give back to our guests who help us stay eco-conscious. Sustainability is a very important part of the hotel and the Accor brand. We just started offering paper straws to be more mindful of our plastic use. The world is beautiful, and we want to keep it that way while incentivizing guests to participate.”

Sofitel Thanksgiving Buffet
On November 22 Sofitel hosted its Thanksgiving buffet at Chez Colette. Chef Edward Hancock cooked the meal, preparing a buffet menu full of Thanksgiving staples, including carved turkey, roasted sweet potatoes, as well as shrimp, oysters, clams and prime rib.

Veteran's Day
Our nation’s flag carries with it the highest value, standing for liberty, equality and justice and there is no higher honor than to suit up in our nation’s uniform and fight for the ideals it represents. On November 4, thousands of veterans proudly suited up at the fourth annual Philadelphia Veterans Parade and Festival. The event kicked off dramatically with paratroopers landing at Independence Mall carrying American flags. This was only the fourth year that Philadelphia hosted a parade and Philadelphians were quite proud to see the troops represented, especially City Council President Darrell Clarke who stated “For so many years there was no Veterans Parade. We need to recognize the sacrifice that these veterans and these people that are currently in the service …we need to recognize them in a meaningful way.” Thousands also showed up to honor veterans like Ray Stankus who fought in Vietnam. Stankus is an a passionate veteran and marches in remembrance of his fallen comrades. “We march to basically represent those who never came back,” he said. “There’s over 58,000 K.I.A.s in Vietnam. We march for them.” We are forever grateful for our vets and without them we would not be here today.

Join us this year as we Unmask the Legacy! For the 4th year in-a-row JerseyMan and PhillyMan Magazine will host its annual Unmasking the Legacy Gala to celebrate its man and woman of the year honorees at the Ballroom at Ben. This masquerade-themed celebration will bring together and celebrate 6 men and women who have been the most influential in their professional and philanthropic achievements. Each ticket will be purchased in support one of the candidates, and the two individuals with the most ticket sales will have the honor of having a portion of ticket sales donated to their respective charity. The list of honorees includes Angela Parsons supporting the Center for Grieving Children, David Silver supporting Operation Yellow Ribbon of South Jersey, Violeta Yas supporting the Boys and Girls Club of Philadelphia, John Murabito supporting the Johnny M. Foundation, Mac Nagaswami supporting TeenSHARP, and Amy Rudley supporting the Claddagh Fund. You don’t want to miss it!
