A new wind turbine application

Many of you will already have had a leaflet from the Lifton and Lyd Valley Action Group, regarding an application for planning permission to erect a 67 metre [220 ft] high wind turbine at Ridgecombe Farm, which would be near the road to Lifton from Chillaton.

Because the turbine would be placed on Ridgecombe Hill, it would be visible from many of the properties in Chillaton that have a clear view towards Router.

If you have concerns about this development, you would find it helpful to drive towards Lifton from Chillaton and before you get to Router, you should see the blimp flying, if the weather's OK. You could then make your own assessment. There will also be a community workshop at the Arundell Arms from 2pm - 8.30pm on Monday 13th April and the blimp should be flying then.

The turbine would not be in the area of our Parish Council, as it is in Lifton Parish. Nevertheless our Parish Council will be objecting to this development, because its visual impact would be so significant that it would affect our area. It will also object on the basis that the cumulative effect of the large single turbines being erected in the area is degrading the landscape, to the detriment of local residents and tourist-based enterprises.

The closing date for representations for or against this proposal is the 17th April.

Four Chillaton Councillors

For four years we have only had three councillors representing Chillaton on Milton Abbot Grouped Parish Council. We should have four and with the addition of Chris Beighton to the original trio of Howard Asbridge, Ray Brewer and Amanda Westcott, we will be up to full strength again.

Village Public Hall - AGM

All villagers are invited to attend the AGM of the Public Hall Trust on Thursday 23 April 2015 at 7.30 pm in Marystow Church Hall.

If you care about your village amenities, please come along and lend your support.

Psst! Wanna buy a phone box?

It's only a quid! Yes, if we pay £1.00 to BT we can adopt our village phone box and use it for what we like.

OK, experience tells us that nothing's that simple, but it really would only cost a pound. Basically, BT want to let people put 'their' red phone boxes to a suitable community use.

Ideas so far are that we could use it as a library [i.e. a second-hand book exchange] or we could base a defibrillator there. Village pub? Maybe not.

Stop press: Book sale result

The first social event at the newly located Post Office at Marystow Church Hall was the coffee morning that raised £72 for St Luke's Hospice.

Now yesterday's second-hand book sale [and cup of tea] has raised £55 for TASS - Tavistock Area Support Services.

What's next? A knitter natter. That seems plain, or pearl...... date to be announced.
