Land at the rear of Marlow Crescent
Proposed development of 16 houses
A consultant for the owner of land at the rear of Marlow Crescent has put forward proposals for the development of the area with 16 houses, of which 12 would be affordable homes.  They also propose to set aside land for community use such as a village hall or allotments.
No application for planning permission has been submitted.  Instead, the consultant wants to work with the team producing the neighbourhood plan [MACKPlan] as they consider strategic issues, including possible housing sites. The consultant states that there is no intention to submit any planning application until MACKPlan is complete, or at least largely complete.

The Parish Council will consider whether to endorse that approach at its meeting on 14th May.  It will not consider the merits or otherwise of this proposal at that meeting.

This photo is somewhat ambitious, as usually very few people attend the annual meeting.  But, if you want to raise an issue or ask a question of the Parish Council, this is your opportunity.
MACKPlan news
As you can see from the Marlow Crescent item, MACKPlan [the neighbourhood plan for Milton Abbot Chillaton and Kelly] is already being seen as an important factor in considering development proposals.
Why?  Because once approved, it must be taken into account when planning applications are determined.  But, for MACKPlan to succeed, it has to reflect what you want and it has to be supported in a referendum.  Without it, Chillaton will not be able to influence development in and around the village as effectively as it could do.

The MACKPlan team is not an exclusive club.  Any resident can join and every resident should make sure they have access to MACKPlan email newsletters, so they know how the plan is evolving.

Please go to to sign up for the newsletters.  There is also a forum on the MACKPlan website where anyone who registers can start or join in a debate online.

Those who already get the MACKPlan newsletters will have been asked to complete a short online survey. We would like Chillaton newsletter readers to complete the survey too, please.

We need your help in deciding what issues we should cover in the MACKPlan questionnaire that will soon be sent to all local residents.  We will only do that once, so it's important that we get the scope of the questionnaire right.
Please click on this link and complete the on-line survey now. Thank you.

Vodafone Success!

Those of you with a Vodafone contract (or apparently a contract that uses the Vodafone network) may have been surprised to suddenly start receiving texts at home this week. This is following the installation of our Vodafone Rural SureSignal Transmitter on Chillaton Garage.
The service seems to penetrate the walls of a number of properties (as well as outside) and also works across the centre of the village. Our thanks to Vodafone for providing this service as they are unlikely to make a fortune out of Chillaton! More importantly, grateful thanks to Phil for hosting this facility on the garage and to everyone who offered to host a mast.

Hello From Your New Parish Councillor

My name is Chris Beighton and I live at StoneCroft, next to Marlow Crescent. Following my application to become Parish Councillor, I was pleased to be told that I would be elected unopposed, thus bringing our Parish Council up to full strength. I have lived in Chillaton for 5 years now, since moving here in 2010 and have found this to be a great place to live with a host of friendly people.
My decision to become a Parish Councillor was heavily influenced by a feeling that the village is in danger of losing its sense of community following the closure of the shop and for the time being, the pub. To this end my 'manifesto' will be about working with the other Councillors to find ways to bring us closer together again as a community, as well as working to improve our environment. I am also a member of the MACKPlan team. You can contact me about Parish Council issues (or anything for that matter) via my email address,
