Marystowe Church - Carol Service

With our pub closed, many of us will miss getting together for the carol singing on Christmas Eve. Everyone is very welcome at Marystowe Church at 6.30pm for a service with carols and Holy Communion this evening.

Retirement of Geoff the Postman

Some of you might already know that our wonderful postman Geoff is retiring on 20th January.
If anyone would like to contribute towards a leaving present for him, Deborah Asbridge (Laurel Cottage)  is hosting a collection that we can put towards a voucher or other gift (suggestions welcome).

Update on Superfast Broadband

Following some questions on the Broadband prompted by the previous newsletter, just to confirm that to get the new service, you need to contact whoever provides your Broadband now and ask to upgrade (you'll have to pay extra - unless you can do a deal). It won't be upgraded automatically.

Chillaton Photos - Street Party Photos now online

As well as the old photos of Chillaton, Les Bennett kindly passed me his photos of the Chillaton Street Party from 2011. These are now on the web and can be accessed from the website. Please keep them coming. I would like to build up a public Chillaton picture archive. It would also be great if someone was willing to edit the text that goes with these and describe them all and who is in them. It's easy to do! Please get in touch if you have time to help and we can set you up.

April Cottage

April Cottage dates from 1900. We are told it’s the old Mine Captain’s Cottage, connected to the now defunct manganese mines near the village. We have limited information on the history of the cottage, so if anyone knows any more, please let us know!
As you may know, Matt and I run April Cottage as a part-time holiday let. Over the last two years, we’ve been delighted with how many people want to visit this part of the world—no shortage of bookings! The feedback we get on the cottage, the village, and the surrounding area is truly amazing.
We've felt so welcomed by the village we would like to offer a 10% discount throughout the year and 20% discount when out of season – outside of school holidays – particularly the winter months. So if you have friends or family coming to stay and need the extra space, or if you have any questions, please do get in touch via the website.
