Books for sale

Raising money to help buy a new carpet for Marystowe Church, second-hand books are on sale, both in the church and in the schoolroom [the church hall].

The schoolroom is open on Post Office days and also when meetings are held there.
Where else can you buy a book for 50p or 3 for just £1.00?

If you have a few books that you no longer need, the church would be pleased to have them.  You might even like to recycle any you bought there by returning them to be sold again!

Why not call in and have a look and use the Post Office too?  It's open twice a week:
                      Tuesday 9am - 12 noon.      Thursday 2pm to 5pm

As well as buying stamps, you can withdraw cash and pay your household bills, along with the other traditional services you expect to get at a Post Office.

Lewdown Past - The Lewdown and area Local History Group presents - Everyday Life (especially food) at Sydenham House 1550 – 1650

An illustrated talk by Todd Gray MBE - Tuesday 21st March at 7.30 pm Stowford Parish Hall
Forget the ‘big events’ in history and find out more about what local people ate (particularly), and did, four hundred or so years ago.
Todd Gray has unearthed some extensive records of domestic life in our immediate area, long before any of today’s modern aids existed.
His talk focuses on Sydenham House, which is mentioned in the Domesday Book but underwent extensive rebuilding around 1600.
Todd Gray is always an interesting and amusing speaker, as you would expect from the current President of the Devonshire Association.
Non-members are welcome to join us (£3 includes light refreshments) but please phone Hilary or Mary on 01566 783396 or 783567 to check there has not been a rare change of programme, or for further information.

If you are able to spare an hour or so, to help with general maintenance in Marystowe churchyard, we would be extremely grateful. This can be done at any time, so please just give one of us a call. Anything from raking the gravel paths or pulling the ivy out of the yew trees, to gathering up a few fallen twigs or simply, clearing some moss from the gravestones would be a great help.
