Riverbuffs Meeting at Sydenham House

We have had a message from the Riverbuffs Charity regarding a new project they are undertaking at Sydenham. The message reads thus.
Through this project we aim to establish a local environmental volunteer group based at the Sydenham Estate in West Devon on the river Lyd. The group will share knowledge and receive training on surveying, monitoring and recording a variety of environmental factors associated with the site to establish a baseline of information; this would include habitat types, flora and fauna, river water quality and aquatic and terrestrial invertebrates.
Informed by the data gained by the surveys, we then hope to undertake appropriate physical conservation works. These will seek to improve the environmental condition of the area and demonstrate techniques that can be applied elsewhere where appropriate.
The programme of activities will provide knowledge and skills relevant to people interested in river ecology and improving our environment. The programme will be flexible but will include:
.	Riverfly Partnership invertebrate monitoring training
.	Water Quality monitoring techniques
.	Moving water and outdoor first aid training
.	River and ecological survey techniques
.	Sustainability and environmental good practice
.	Practical habitat conservation techniques
We are planning on starting the programme soon. If you would like further information search for River Buffs on Facebook or email
