Road Closure - Marystow

Because of works to water mains in the area, it is likely that the road from the White House to Marystow will be closed from Monday 24th August to Wednesday 26th, followed by the closure of the road from Marystow to Splatt Mill from Thursday 27th to Friday 28th.

Cardwell Farm Turbine

The Borough Council has decided to refuse planning permission for the proposed wind turbine at Cardwell Farm. It has done so because it considered that various aspects of the impact of the turbine were unacceptable and that it did not have the backing of local residents. You can read the full details on the planning portal

Summer Oil Order

Richard Searight is now taking orders for a bulk oil delivery. With the price at less that 30p a litre, now seems like a good time to top up the tank for winter. Visit the Chillaton Web Site to order.

Proposed development on land adjacent to April Cottage, Chillaton

Application has been made to develop the land between April Cottage and Keri Keri, with a two-storey house of traditional design. Details can be seen at the Planning Portal

Any representations to the Borough Council have to be made by 11th September.

Broadband Speeds

This week we were excited to learn (via the contact page on the website) that it appears that the capability of our exchange has been upgraded to ADSL2+ (Thanks Amanda) . This isn't quite fibre, but does allow increases to maximum speeds from about 7Mb to around 17Mb (your experience may vary)
On checking it appears that one of your authors has already been upgraded by BT (Chris) and another has not (Howard). Further research suggests that if you have a newer router that can deal with ADSL2+, it might be automatic, but if you don't have it and your router is quite old, that might be the reason. In this case it might be best to speak with your broadband supplier.

You can check whether you can get it by using this link and whether you have it by using your favourite broadband speed checker, such as this one. (Be careful where you click on this site, there are a few adverts on it)
