    A Garden.  A Meadow.
A School and Kids.
A Healthier Community.
A busy school year ends with a fun summer ahead.
Now...let's get that playground built!

Kelly Green Project:  Moving forward after a busy year.

Following a summer of garden-tending and meadow crabgrass pulling (!), we welcomed parents and kids back with fresh veggies from the garden and a new split rail fence around the meadow. (Thanks to the Friends of the Wissahickon!)
With support from the Mural Arts Restorative Justice Program we sponsored a housewarming for birds!
Families made their own bird feeders to take home while we put up the new birdhouses...soon to be home for chickadees!
The Audubon Society has been coming to teach kids about water and plant needs for birds with more classes to be involved next year!
Kelly students and families teamed up with other neighbors  to clean up the schoolyard and dedicate our new educational signs in the meadow.
The Kelly Garden Club began its 4th year with the support of Arcadia University students who helped get indoor grow lights started inside John B. Kelly School.
Spring planting has resulted in bags of organic lettuce, kale, peas, a variety of herbs, strawberries and fresh raspberries going home with families.

And now we're ready for a busy summer, activating the schoolyard as we move toward its complete renovation!  We've hired landscape architect Sarah Endriss to help develop a final plan for the schoolyard.  Additional input from teachers has already begun.  Opportunities for community engagement is planned through the summer.  Join us as we help make sure our community's school becomes a true asset for the entire neighborhood.
Here are your opportunities to be part of Kelly Green's activities:
  • Bi-weekly "Meadow Minder" workshops 6-7 PM in the meadow on Pulaski Ave. Come learn what's a weed, what's native and how this small landscape is changing: June 28, July 12 and 26, Aug. 9 and 23.
  • Weekly Garden "maintain and harvest" evenings in the garden (off of Morris St.): Mondays 5-6 PM.  All welcome to stop by.  Take home whatever is ready to harvest!
