Thank You, God, For Malone

I don't think I've ever known anyone who could change the climate of a room as quickly. He made everyone around him a little stronger and a little better. Malone Dodson carried his faith as best he could, but it was too big so it "spilled out" wherever he went. It spilled out when he met you one-on-one. He listened well, and you knew you mattered to God. Children can sense that kind of thing without being able to put it to words. Children won't crawl into the lap of a thundercloud, but they would hurry to be close to Malone. My children did.

Very few can translate that kind of heartfelt care into a room full of people, but Malone could, and he did. As Senior Pastor of Roswell UMC for 24 years, he created a caring space that invited people to become their best selves. That is a legacy he left behind and you can still feel it today, even though he is gone. I miss him and if you knew him, I know you miss him as well.

Malone was 85 years old when his body gave out. Because of his faith in Jesus Christ, he made the world a better place during his time here. Of course we miss him, and it's a good thing to practice grief when you miss someone. But with the grief, I hope you'll practice gratitude as well. Thank God every time you remember Malone, and after that, thank God one more time.
