As part of GRC Institute’s 20th anniversary celebrations, the GRC Professional has been reaching out to those members who have been around since the organisation’s inception and who have stayed to watch it evolve.
John Murray is the AIA Vitality Chief Compliance Officer, but he was also one of the compliance officers involved with the GRC Institute back when it was known as the Australian Compliance Professionals Association.
The GRC Professional: What is your current Role? What role were you in previously?
John Murray: I am currently responsible for leading the AIA compliance team in Australia and New Zealand. Prior to this, I had various risk and compliance roles with NAB in the Australia, Asia Pacific and Group Office teams.
GP: When and why did you did you first get involved with the GRC Institute?
JM: Basically, from the beginning—around 1997. Back then, it was called ACPA.
GP: What role did you play in the Institute?
JM: I served the maximum term of six years on the Board, was chair of the Ethics Committee, a representative with others on the Australian and New Zealand Standards Committee for Compliance AS3806, and author and co-author of various articles and publications relating to risk and compliance
