Holiday Break
Our last open day of the year will be Wednesday, December 20, and we will re-open on Saturday, January 6. We hope to get most of our cats and dogs into holiday foster homes for the duration of the break. It doesn't take much to be able to foster over the holidays. If you have a spare room or even a decent-sized spare bathroom, you could house a cat or a dog to help them have a happy holiday. PAWS provides the supplies you need for your foster animal.
If you are interested in holiday fostering, contact one of our foster coordinators:
For cats: dab1183@comcast.net
For dogs: vishler@gmail.com
During the break, some animals who would not do well being transported back and forth will remain in the shelter, so we will need volunteers for our normal care shifts during that time. Please be aware that we will have almost exclusively high level dogs in the shelter over the break. We will be clearing out the Cattery for the holidays, but some cats will remain in the hallway rooms. If you are available at all over the holiday break, please consider volunteering to care for the animals who are not able to be home for the holidays!

Are you an RSVP member?
If you are a member of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, please email megan@centrecountypaws.org so I can add you as an RSVP member in our system. Your volunteer hours are sent to RSVP to help them track the impact of their volunteers across the whole organization. Our PAWS RSVP members are also hoping to host an event to spend time with each other!

Volunteer of the Month: Judy Rayback
|

The Volunteer of the Month gets a blog feature on our website and their very own parking space! The Volunteer of the Month can be anyone who logged hours during the previous month or a volunteer who has logged 1,500 hours. The volunteer will be contacted via email. If a youth volunteer wins, their parent or guardian will be able to use the parking space. Make sure to log your hours!

Ways to Help PAWS from Home:
Lost and Found Email
We are seeking a volunteer to monitor our Lost and Found email account. This requires checking the email account regularly for reports of lost or found animals and sharing the information with the appropriate outlets to help reunite the animals with their owners. Access to Facebook is helpful, and there is no need to come to PAWS to do this task. If you are interested, please email megan@centrecountypaws.org for more information.

Sew-Soft Bed Covers
We received a lot of donated fabric, and we need assistance sewing together bed covers for our dog beds to help streamline the laundering process. They are basically just pillowcases in different sizes. The fabric will be cut out by volunteer groups and labelled with the appropriate dimensions, and you can take home as many as you are able to sew. If you are crafty and would like to help make life more comfy for the PAWS dogs, please email megan@centrecountypaws.org for more information.

This year we decided to try something new and host a Black Furday event! On Black Friday, we promoted our black-furred animals by opening to the public and offering incentives for adopting black cats. A generous donor offered to pay half the fees for all black kittens, and we waived the fees for all adult black cats. We also showcased our black dogs during the event, and we held raffle drawings that were free for all visitors to enter. Here are some pictures from the event, which was a resounding success!
|
|
On Black Friday alone, we had over 60 visitors EACH on the dog and cat side. We also received 5 cat applications and 3 dog applications! The black cat promotion continued throughout the rest of the weekend. Thanks to all the volunteers who made Black Furday such a hit!

Love following up on our furry friends? Lots of our adopters check back in and while we can't post them all here, we post them on our Facebook page. Check out the Happy Endings photo album on Facebook.

"Finn (formerly Falcore) is doing great! He is a wonderful dog and we have really bonded. He follows the same routine every day, waking up and going for long walks before heading with me to work. I take him with me nearly everywhere, plus we'll go on 3 walks a day. He loves his new home, especially since he now has a million toys scattered around the floor."

"Willow (now Mittens) has been wonderful. It's as if she has lived here for months. Everyone of our dear pets are such good friends already. She loves to play with my yarn as I knit, is very curious, and loves to sleep right next to me in my chair."

Romeo's family checked in to say that he is doing really well and has even come to an agreement with his feline siblings. They think he may be part cat because he has caught some rodents and he likes to climb on the cat tree!
