PAWS For The Latest

News & Events From Centre County PAWS

A Note From Our Executive Director

We are looking forward to our 10th annual Centre Gives, a 36-hour online giving campaign, sponsored by Centre Foundation. For the past 5 years, this has been the largest single source of income for Centre County PAWS. Centre Gives begins 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 11 and concludes 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 12. During that time, PAWS is asking you to make a donation of $10 or more to care for our cats and dogs. All donations during the event will be made on Centre Gives website at www.centregives.org.
Your support during Centre Gives helps dogs like Francine, who was recently spayed and is now available for adoption. She came to PAWS through the Centre County Humane Officer and shortly after arrival, gave birth to 6 wonderful puppies. PAWS is also seeing a large number of orphaned kittens coming through our doors this year. Funds raised during Centre Gives pay for everything from kitten formula to vaccinations.
We hope you’ll join us virtually May 11–12 to see the impact your donations make in the lives of hundreds of animals per year. We have special videos, live streams, and stories planned to share with you throughout the event. Stay tuned!

With Gratitude,

Lisa Bahr
Executive Director

Dr. John Thomas Veterinary Emergency Treatment (VET) Fund

PAWS is officially accepting applications for assistance through the Dr. John Thomas Veterinary Emergency Treatment (VET) Fund. This would not be possible without Fred and Megan Metzger’s generous matching donation of $100,000 and the donations from so many tremendous individuals in our community. Thank you for believing in this fledgling program. We are excited to see where it will go and how many animals it can help. If you have not yet donated, but are interested in contributing, your support is welcome and appreciated at any time. Just visit our donate page and select the Veterinary Emergency Treatment (VET) Fund in the list of available funds.

The VET Fund will operate outside of PAWS’ everyday life saving work. As we begin administration of the new fund, we will continue to care for the dogs and cats of Centre County who need us and lead spay and neuter efforts of community animals.

Please visit our website to learn more about the VET Fund and grant eligibility requirements.

Employee and Volunteer Spotlights

This month we are spotlighting Kylie Eckley, our Cat Adoption Assistant

Wendy Roe is our Volunteer of the Month. Though she recently moved out of the area, she is still helping PAWS from a distance!

Happy Tails

Frisches hitched a ride from Cincinnati, Ohio and found a new dad in Happy Valley!
Oliver and Luke checked in recently. Oliver (standing) was adopted in July 2016 and just turned 5 years old. His vet said that Oliver is built for comfort and not speed and that is very true. He is very laid back but leads the welcoming committee when we come home. He loves to play fetch. Luke was adopted in December 2018. He’s a big mommas boy. Luke will take a good head scratch at any time and never stops purring. He loves to talk to anyone in the kitchen (but only in the kitchen.)
Valentino flew all the way here from South Carolina and boy were his ears tired! Luckily he found a family to head home with right away.

Help From Home

Photo request! During Centre Gives, we love to feature our alumni to showcase all of the wonderful PAWS Happy Tails that wouldn't have been possible without your support. If you would like your PAWS alum(s) to be included in this year's video, please email publicity@centrecountypaws.org by May 5. In the meantime, look for your alum in last year's video!
Current Needs List - You can help from home by shopping from our list of most needed and essential items from our Amazon Wishlist, like canned cat food, bird seed, bleach, and paper towels. If you have not yet selected a charity through Amazon Smile, please select Centre County PAWS! We are also happy to share that we now have a Chewy Wishlist!
Leave a Review for PAWS - One easy yet highly impactful way to help PAWS is by sharing a review. Consider adding your feedback on either or both of the two most important websites people use to search for Centre County PAWS - Facebook and Google. An increase in online reviews and, of course, a high star rating drives more people to us for adoption and for assistance with their pet(s). If you have any questions about just how to leave a review, feel free to reach out to our marketing team - publicity@centrecountypaws.org.
