PAWS For The Latest

January 2021 News & Events From Centre County PAWS

A Note From Our Executive Director

It is my pleasure to share a brief summary of PAWS’ year, in numbers. 2020, despite its myriad challenges, proved to be the year for cats. PAWS adopted out nearly 700 cats in 2020. That is 100 cats more than we’ve ever adopted out before in a single year. We are so grateful to our tremendous adopters, fosters, and volunteers who made this year so successful.
While our dog adoption numbers did not skyrocket, we were able to almost maintain our adoption numbers from 2019, by finding homes for 272 dogs. Our total foster home numbers increased by 15% last year, with so many animal lovers working from home. PAWS Spay and Neuter Assistance Program altered 1,800 cats and dogs in our community. Our volunteers graciously donated 30,700 hours of their time in 2020. That number is extra amazing to me since most of those hours were spent in a mask!

This success would not be possible without continued support from donors, adopters, and supporters like you. Thank you sincerely for helping PAWS through 2020 and hanging with us as we move into an exciting new year.

With Gratitude,

Lisa Bahr
Executive Director

PAWS Pajama Party
March 19, 2021
6:30 PM

Our Annual Comedy Club Event cannot take place this year. To take its place, we are planning a fun-filled virtual PAWS Pajama Party. We all got dressed up for the Fur Ball in October, but COVID continues to keep us apart. So, let’s just get comfy, have a good time, and raise funds for our animals. The event will be held Friday, March 19 beginning at 6:30 PM. It will feature a raffle, silent auction, pets in PJs, and the creative content you’ve come to know us for. If you are interested in participating as a sponsor or item sponsor, email alicia@centrecountypaws.org. Stay tuned for more information!

Patio Paver Project

2021 will include the building of an outdoor patio in the backyard of PAWS! We are working with LandServ, Inc. to bring our visitors, volunteers, and staff a beautiful outdoor gathering space that will overlook Happy Valley and provide stunning sunset views.

Laser-engraved bricks will be placed throughout the outdoor patio. This is your opportunity to not only help PAWS raise imperative funds but also to commemorate your involvement and individual journey with Centre County PAWS.

There are many different options for your engraved brick - click here for more information and to make your mark on our new outdoor patio. Email our Events Manager (alicia@centrecountypaws.org) with any questions. Our goal is to sell 300 bricks, in order to begin the building process in the spring. We look forward to enjoying this unique space with all of you in the near future!

Help From Home

Smile for PAWS - If you do any shopping on Amazon, you can help PAWS by using Amazon Smile and setting PAWS as your preferred charity. Last quarter, we received almost $900 from our followers’ use of Amazon Smile. Every purchase means a small amount is donated to PAWS, and it adds up! Just go to smile.amazon.com to update your preferences.

Save Those Boxes - So you signed up for Amazon Smile, ordered some gifts, now have a bunch of boxes. We may be able to use those boxes at PAWS! We love to have medium sized boxes (16x12x8) for the cats’ cages. They provide some hiding places as well as vertical space for climbing and perching.

Leave a Review for PAWS - One easy way yet highly impactful way to help PAWS is by sharing a review. Consider adding your feedback on either or both of the two most important websites people use to search for Centre County PAWS - Facebook and Google. An increase in online reviews and, of course, a high star rating drives more people to us for adoption and for assistance with their pet(s). If you have any questions about just how to leave a review, feel free to reach out to our marketing team - publicity@centrecountypaws.org.

Chadwick was adopted by long time fosters for PAWS. He started out as a foster like many dogs before him, but he’s the first to stay forever. He’s looking forward to welcoming future foster dogs into the family!
Eggnog, now Scout - spent the holidays with her new family and never left!
