The Shelter Scoop

June 2021 Volunteer Newsletter from Centre County PAWS

Hello <<First Name>>!

I am pleased and thankful to share that our Patio Party, held on the PAWS grounds, was a big success. We met our fundraising goal and had a lot of fun in the process. It was wonderful to be able to show supporters our property, watch the sun set behind the kennel area, and bring plenty of dogs and kittens around to visit with our attendees. If you’d like to take a look at some of the photos from the event you can find them in our Facebook album here.

I thought many of you would be interested in the results of an interesting study done by the BC SPCA in Canada on cat relinquishment related to their ban on declawing.

Around the Shelter

Our bud Jojo has been doing great in his foster home. So much so, that we’ve been able to reduce his medication amount and place him back up for adoption! We really weren’t sure how much time he had left, but thanks to some careful diagnostics and expert nursing (aka lots of food, walkies, and fluffy beds) by his foster parents, he’s on the mend. We aren’t sure how much time Jojo has left, but we do know he’s not ready to go anywhere yet except his forever home.

Reading to Cats

Some of our youngest visitors have been hitting the books again with our kitties. We have limited the number of participants in order to space ourselves appropriately, so filled up very fast. We think the cats are pretty happy with their pint sized visitors returning! Pictured are Duncan (human) and Prince (cat - adopted yesterday!)

Pet Pantry Shed

Our shed is finally happening! Our permit was approved after lots and lots of back and forth and we have ordered our cool new shed. We can’t wait to have it fully up and running! We also look forward to having a naming ceremony when we officially open it up. If you are out and about, grabbing a small bag of cat food of any brand is always needed and appreciated. It’s incredible how popular and needed the Pet Pantry has been.

Happy Updates

Love following up on our furry friends? Lots of our adopters check back in and while we can't post them all here, we post them on our Facebook page.
Buck and PAWS adopted brother, Porter- Adopted by Wednesday PM Shift Leader, Bryan!
"Just wanted to send a little update about Milo (Bray's new name). He is doing great and adapting well. Loves the freedom of the entire house when he can get it. Our other cat is still not sure so we are keeping them separate still when we can’t supervise. Our dog and him have become great friends though."
We received this great testimonial from the adopter of Big Wheeler, the Rottweiler. Kudos to our Behavioral Team and his Pet Partners for making this adoption happen! “I adopted Big Wheeler (now Ruger) back in November 2020. He is the best thing that has happened in my life and I am so thankful for him! Without the help and support of Centre County PAWS staff, I'm not sure that we would have adopted him due to his guarding issues...thank you for all that you're doing at PAWS!”
The kitties are adjusting well to their new home. Princess Buttercup has been renamed Gracie, and Biscotti is now Mando. Where one cat goes, the other is not far behind…
