PAWS For The Latest

October 2017 News & Events From Centre County PAWS

Adopt A Senior!

Centre County PAWS is celebrating Adopt-A-Senior Pet Month during November, along with shelters across the nation. We have a number of senior cats and dogs looking for homes but the reality is older animals have a tougher time getting adopted. We think older pets are great and want to highlight a few at PAWS:

Carolyn is a great example of a senior dog with a lot of love left to give. Originally from Freedom Fences down south, 9-year-old Carolyn has come to the Northeast to find her forever home. Already house-broken and crate-trained, Carolyn would do well in a home with other dogs. Her sweet demeanor could make her the perfect addition to your family.
Shadow is another example of a loving senior animal with a lot of spunk and energy. Shadow is all about meeting and greeting new people, and will be sure to purr her thanks for pets and ear scratches. Ask her age, she'll never tell! Shadow is ready to give lots of love and companionship to her next family.
Older pets are usually calmer, are less high maintenance in terms of attention or exercise, can be trained and are more focused than youngsters, and adopters often report that seniors are especially grateful for their new homes. A senior pet's remaining years will certainly be some of their happiest. Considering adopting a senior next month!

Happy Anniversary, Lisa!

Our Director of Operations, Lisa Bahr, just completed her 10th anniversary at PAWS!

Lisa arrived at PAWS shortly after the Adoption Center was built, as PAWS’ first paid employee. She’s been instrumental in establishing guidelines and protocols that best serve our animals. In addition to overseeing all operations at PAWS, Lisa’s rescued and fostered several shelter dogs. Centre County PAWS is fortunate to have her!

Fosters Needed

Due to the recent storms of Hurricane Harvey and Irma, PAWS has been busy transporting dogs to State College to ultimately provide much needed space for dogs brought from the affected regions to shelters and pet rescue agencies in South Carolina. (See our article about it here!)

As a result, we currently have a need for dog fosters. Please visit our website to find out more about becoming a foster home.

Koala

One family looked past the fact that Koala has Feline Leukemia and adopted this gorgeous gal! She went home last week after spending 79 days at PAWS.

Darwin

"It's been about two weeks since I brought home Darwin (formerly known as Gerald) from PAWS. I'm happy to say that he's thoroughly enjoying his forever home! He's a total lap cat, very sociable, and his favorite spot in the apartment is right here in front of the sliding glass door looking out over the balcony. He's almost always by my side (or climbing into my lap, especially when I'm working!) and loves snuggles and play time. I'm so happy to finally have some company! Thank you for everything, PAWS!"
