Kat Kat, adopted from PAWS
PAWS for the Latest
October 2015 News & Events from Centre County PAWS

Hi <<First Name>>!

Kat Kat, adopted from PAWS

When Kat Kat arrived at PAWS this summer he had only known life as a primarily outdoor pet. He was picked on relentlessly by a neighbor cat. He came to PAWS with swollen eyes, oozing sores, and fresh lacerations. Despite his injuries, it was obvious that Kat Kat loved people. He often would meow tales of his life outdoors to anyone who would listen. And after two weeks of isolation and medication, Kat Kat started to look like the handsome man he always knew he could be. Then, in September, one family looked past the scars, fell in love, and adopted Kat Kat.

One month later, Kat Kat is enjoying the indoor life with his forever family. "Kat Kat is doing great! He is such a sweetheart! He got used to the apartment very quickly! He loves to play on his cat bookshelf and to hide in cupboards, but he is also loves to cuddle! We are so happy we could be his family." And the closest Kat Kat gets to the outdoors these days is a view from the window sill. Which, according to his family, is all he wants.

Kat Kat is just one of the 439 cats and 237 dogs that PAWS has been able to rescue and place into loving forever homes this year. This would not be possible without your generous support. If you are looking for your new best friend, look no further than our adoptable cats or adoptable dogs.

Centre County PAWS Spay and Neuter Challenge

Spay/Neuter Matching Gift Campaign

We’re getting closer! Thanks to your gifts, our spay/neuter matching campaign has raised more than $21,000.00. Once we raise $30,000.00, Stone Valley Pet Lodge will match that! Thanks to our reduced low-cost voucher program, Maria of Centre Hall was able to spay a neighborhood cat who had a few litters of kittens. A couple who had kittens dumped on their property used our vouchers to alter them. Spaying and neutering is the only way to manage the problem of pet overpopulation. Thank you to the following groups who held fundraisers for us and donated to this match: Happy Dog Yoga, State College Area Rollers, Left Right Repeat, Tame Your Mane, Pars for PAWS and Chronic Town. We can help our community with your support!

Phoebe, available for adoption from PAWS

Phoebe

Phoebe is now the queen of Centre Hall Pet Supply! She was there as a foster cat, but is now a resident cat after being adopted! Her new mom says, "I swear that Phoebe knew when I signed the papers! For the first time in 11 months, she decided that she should be a lap cat! So, she joins me on the chair when I do paperwork."

Rodney, adopted from PAWS

Rodney

"Rodney is now back to being called Hot Rod. He's doing great. He wears a bowtie almost all the time. He loves car rides and has traveled a lot this summer. He went to Virginia and went swimming in a lake, but did not like it and stayed on the dock more than jumping in. He went to Cape Cod and loved the beach, though he wants the sun more than the shade."

VOLUNTEER NEEDS

We are looking for a Handy Volunteer who can help around the shelter with some basic repair work on an on-call as-needed basis. We're always in need of someone who knows how to fix minor plumbing issues, perform utilities repairs, and help with basic mechanical upkeep throughout the building.  If you're interested, please email our Director of Operations at: lisa_bahr@centrecountypaws.org.

We also are in search of additional Front Desk Volunteers!  At the front line of the Adoption Center,  the duties of a front desk volunteer include: welcoming all volunteers and visitors to PAWS warmly, answering questions and directing visitors appropriately; answering phones and provide accurate information to callers; accepting donations from visitors, give receipts for in kind donations, and thank donors on behalf of PAWS; and helping with administrative PAWS projects as needed. If you are interested in becoming a front desk volunteer, please visit our website to find out how to become a PAWS volunteer.

PAWSOME KIDS!

The PAWS website has a brand new Children section, thanks to one local Girl Scout! Robin S. worked on the web project over the past year to earn her Girl Scout Gold Award. The new Children section provides information for young people about how they can get involved at PAWS, complete a scouting project, and also provides a forum for kids to submit their favorite pet photos, and ask questions. A big woof and purr salute goes to Robin for a job well done!

PAWSome kid, Asher G.

A big thank you and happy birthday goes out to Asher G. who brought us donations that he collected for his birthday instead of presents.
