The Shelter Scoop
January 2016 Volunteer Newsletter from Centre County PAWS

Hello <<First Name>>!

Trixie, available for adoption from PAWS

We had a great year last year.  We had 352 dog adoptions, including the G puppies, pictured right.  We also had a record 584 cat adoptions!

In addition, we helped spay/neuter 1,862 animals across Pennsylvania (well over the 1,575 animals in 2014) and 500 PAWS' animals!

None of this would be possible without all of you.  So a big thank you to all of our volunteers for all of the tireless work you do on the adoption counselors, floor volunteers, shift cleaners, medical staff, administration, and front desk volunteers.

We hope you are all well rested and we look forward to another spectacular year!

A big thank you to the volunteer donors who paid for the paint for our lobby and for the great new "Catty Corner" in the Cattery!

Meet Harvey, the New Lobby Cat

Centre County PAWS Fur Ball

Harvey is a fun guy.  He is Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) positive.  He hould do very well in a home with another FIV+ cat or, under some circumstances, in a home with an FIV negative cat or cats. He's a big hunk of love who loves to sit at the desk and greet visitors.  Let's help Harvey make January the month he finds his forever home!

Congratulations Buster and Abby!

We're excited to announce that Buster and Abby have finally found their forever home!  Buster and Abby would like thank all of the volunteers for their love, patience and kindness.  Their new owner checked in Thursday evening to let us know they were settling in. "Just wanted you both to know we have all had a great day. Many trips to explore the back yard, super afternoon nap and a longish walk. Buster has also explored the whole house on his own too!!  All is good in this household thanks to the superior care these two got at Paws. Thank you both and let everyone know too."
 Good luck you two!

We met our new best friend in December!

41 cats were successfully adopted in December, bringing the year total to 584 placements!
31 dogs were successfully adopted in Decemberbringing the year total to 352 placements!
"The Hat Kittens (DOB: ~05/12/15) scored a "hat trick" when all three went to their new home together on 08/26/15. Clockwise, from upper left are Boomer, Blaze, and Bowler, watching "Cat TV." Next is Bowler, who kept his original name... Next is Blaze (originally known as Sombrero) who was renamed because of his bright orange color and blazing personality. Last is Boomer (originally known as Fedora) who was renamed because of his loud purr. All three are sweet, lovable little guys, and we are really happy to have them in our family."
"One month ago you joined our life when you came home to your "forever home" for the first time & it will never be the same with you around Mickey!  We both love you, out dodo and can't wait to spend many more years taking you on walks, car rides and spoiling the ever loving crap out of you!"
~ an ode to Mickey Mouse!
Lizzie and her sister Madison are best friends! Lizzie
We adopted Millie (known as Miss Jane to Paws) in September. She has been the sweetest addition to our family! She and my older cat hit it off rather quickly and they now have a sibling-like bond. She has settled in well and is such a joy to have around. Thank you!

Happy December Birthday!

Volunteers Wanted

We're looking for a volunteer to help us with cat volunteer shift scheduling.  The volunteer would check the sign up schedule in Volgistics and send out weekly emails as to which shifts need more help.  This is a perfect opportunity for someone who would like to be involved with PAWS from home!  Please email Catherine (catherine@centrecountypaws.org) if you're interested!

We're also looking for a volunteer to help us write blog posts.  We would like to have 1-2 blog posts per month.  Content varies depending on what is going on and the animals in the shelter.  If you're interested or would like more information, please email Catherine (catherine@centrecountypaws.org)  Read up on pasts blogs here: http://www.centrecountypaws.org/domain/23.

Catherine's New Schedule and Title Change

Catherine's schedule and title have changed.  She is now working Mondays and Fridays 9 AM-5 PM, Tuesdays 2 PM-6 PM, and Thursdays 5 PM-7 PM.  Her title change may sound familiar as it was Lisa's but it doesn't mean that she is doing more of what Lisa does.  She is going to be working more with small events like the Alumni Reunion and Bingo.  If you have a question about what she's going to be up to, send her an email or stop by and chat!

How are we doing?
We appreciate you taking a moment to complete a survey to provide your feedback!
