The Shelter Scoop
March 2017 Volunteer Newsletter from Centre County PAWS

Hello <<First Name>>!

Thank you to all of you who came out to PAWS despite the bad weather this week.  We really appreciate all the work you do for the animals on sunny and snowy days!  Thank you also to all of the people who stepped up to foster for a couple of days during the storm.  We couldn't do what we do without you!

Since we've had such a warm winter until recently, we're expecting to get calls about kittens soon.  Orphaned kittens are especially vulnerable as they are found without a parent and need more care than older kittens or kittens with their mothers.  Last year we took in 37 orphans.  To get more information on orphaned kittens check out our website: http://www.centrecountypaws.org/Page/231

We have a lot of great events coming up in the next few weeks.  Check your calendars and see if you can make it.

I hope you enjoy this month's Volunteer Newsletter!

Volunteer of the Month!

This Month's Volunteer of the Month is Shelby Barnes, a dog foster and  volunteer.  Congratulations Shelby!  Check out the blog to learn more about Shelby here: https://goo.gl/komQFD.

The Volunteer of the Month gets a blog feature on our website and their very own parking space!  The Volunteer of the Month can be anyone who logged hours during the previous month or a Volunteer who has logged more than 4,000 hours.  The volunteer will be contacted via email.  If a youth volunteer wins, their parent or guardian will be able to use the parking space.  Make sure to log your hours!

Adoption Follow Ups!

Bailey is doing very well and settling in with us.  She has been healthy and we have really no problems.  We had to work on crate training and she is enjoying her crate more and more.  We try to introduce her to new people and new situations as she feels comfortable.  Our family is currently enrolled in a puppy training class and we are really enjoying it.  She is catching on to new skills every class.  We love how smart she is!  Bailey's favorite activities are going for walks, fetching, chewing on bones and napping under soft blankets.  We are so happy that Bailey has joined our family.
Minnie is the sweetest nicest dog,  very loyal.  She loves playing with the other dogs.  She even loves the cat and bird.  She is perfect.
Sapphire is doing really, really well. We went to the vet last Saturday and they say she's very healthy. She is such a funny kitty.  She sleeps with us and if not in the bed, she stays in the room on her towel with a fluffy mat underneath it. She gets along very well with the dogs. She likes Sadie (our smaller dog) a bit more than Sophie (our bigger dog) but she doesn't run away from them at all. She's a sweet and beautiful and mischievous kitty cat and I'm so grateful to have her in our family.
Our sweet boy is doing great - we've renamed him Mr. Pickles and he's a delight. He is adjusting very well to his new home - growing bolder and more talkative every day. He definitely loves people and I think he's quickly learning we are his family. I can't go anywhere without my little grey shadow and he always does his best to lie either as close to one of us as possible or where he can see both myself and my partner at the same time. He's even learning to play though he mostly just wants to be petted or sleep. We took him to the vet and we're transitioning him to a high protein/low carb diet to help him lose a couple of pounds. She also thought that the damage to his eye was from a healed injury and was actually pretty minimal. She says he likely has more vision than we thought and there's no sign of infection. Otherwise he seems to be in good shape. We're definitely enamored with the little guy and we think he's pretty happy in his new home.
Love following up on our furry friends?  Lots of our adopters check back in and while we can't post them all here, we post them on our Facebook.  Check out the Happy Endings photo album on Facebook here: (https://www.facebook.com/CentreCountyPAWS/photos/?tab=album&album_id=1005665976141939).
