The Shelter Scoop

July 2017 Volunteer Newsletter from Centre County PAWS

Hello <<First Name>>!

During the summer months, we have many reasons to appreciate our volunteers. We're so grateful for all the volunteers who have stuck around during the summer, and we're eagerly anticipating all the volunteers who will be returning from vacation in the next couple of months.

Thanks for all you do, and please enjoy this month's newsletter!

Seeking Dedicated Dog Pet Partners

Would you love to work closely with a dog to help prepare them for adoption? We're seeking more Pet Partners to work on one-on-one training and socialization with our dogs. We would love more Pet Partners both for higher- and lower-level dogs. To become a Pet Partner, we ask that you first be a dog care volunteer for 3 months. Pet Partners need to commit to working with their dog at least twice per week and do an off-site trip at least once per month. If you are interested in being a Pet Partner, please contact Kira at or Judy at

Not a dog volunteer? Still want to be a Pet Partner? No worries! Email if you are interested in Pet Partnering for some of our resident cats!

Volunteer of the Month: Angela Bischof

This month's Volunteer of the Month is Angela Bischof, who is a dog shift leader and foster. Congratulations Angela! Check out the blog to learn more about Angela here:

The Volunteer of the Month gets a blog feature on our website and their very own parking space!  The Volunteer of the Month can be anyone who logged hours during the previous month or a volunteer who has logged more than 4,000 hours.  The volunteer will be contacted via email.  If a youth volunteer wins, their parent or guardian will be able to use the parking space.  Make sure to log your hours!

Seamstresses Needed!

We need assistance sewing together bed covers for our dog beds to help streamline the laundering process. They are being cut by young student volunteers and will be ready for pick up to sew after July 27. Please email to let Megan know if you can help and she'll compile a list to give to the woman with the plan.

Adoption Follow Ups

Love following up on our furry friends? Lots of our adopters check back in and while we can't post them all here, we post them on our Facebook page.  Check out the Happy Endings photo album on Facebook.

"So glad we adopted these 2 housemates together...Boli (formerly Red) and Carini (PAWS Cowboy) enjoying the morning."
"Loki, known as Jack at PAWS, has brought so much joy and love into our lives since we've adopted him. We recently moved out west to Southern California where he loves chasing lizards, running around in the sand, and playing at the dog park. He is energetic, extremely curious, and certainly keeps us on our toes! Thank you PAWS for matching us with this perfect pup."
Springfield was very shy when she arrived at PAWS, but we are so happy that she came out of her shell to win the hearts of her new forever family. Her new mom checked in to say that Springfield is now called Dory Belle and she likes her new home!

Transformative Adoption Update

Fargo the Sheltie came to PAWS with skin issues which resulted in hair loss. His adopter looked past his semi-bald state and gave him a home. Now she checked in to show how much he has recovered and flourished in his new home! Here's a look at his transformation:
