February 2017 Volunteer Newsletter from Centre County PAWS

Hello <<First Name>>!

Centre County PAWS had a great year.  In 2016, we helped an incredible 337 dogs and 512 cats find their forever homes.  We also took in 342 dogs and and 532 cats.

These animals come to PAWS from a variety of backgrounds but they all receive the same amout of love and care from you, our volunteers.  Last year our volunteers logged almost 46,000 hours!  Volunteers really do almost everything for us and without you we could not do what we do.  Thank you all for the tens of thousands of hours you all logged last year!

We have a lot of great events coming up in the next few weeks.  Check your calendars and see if you can make it.

I hope you enjoy this month's Volunteer Newsletter!

Volunteer of the Month!

This Month's Volunteer of the Month is Maria Canales, a cat care volunteer.  Congratulations Maria!  Check out the blog to learn more about Maria here: https://goo.gl/H0zFWw.

The Volunteer of the Month gets a blog feature on our website and their very own parking space!  The Volunteer of the Month can be anyone who logged hours during the previous month or a Volunteer who has logged more than 4,000 hours.  The volunteer will be contacted via email.  If a youth volunteer wins, their parent or guardian will be able to use the parking space.  Make sure to log your hours!

Educational Classes

We'll be doing recurring costumer interaction training for dealing with potentially difficult visitors, a regularly recurring "how to" for cat and dog medication, and a regularly recurring dog body-language course. Here are a couple that are coming up.

Volunteer & Staff Reiki

PAWS will be offering a 'Self-Healing for Animal Caretakers' workshop on Saturday 2/25/2017 from 11-12:30.  This is a great workshop about you!

During the workshop we'll go over different Reiki techniques you can do on a daily basis to help with stress, and some fun meditations to reduce stress and rebalance your spirit!

Everyone is welcome!!  The workshop is free to all PAWS volunteers and staff.  A $10.00 donation is requested for all others.  Registration is required.  Contact Yvonne Riley, yriley28@gmail.com for more information and to register

Fundraising at PAWS

Interested in learning more about how you can help fund-raise for PAWS?  Come and learn about fundraising with our Director of Development and Marketing, Christine Faust.  She'll talk about the events PAWS currently has, how we use the money raised, how to get more involved and more.  The conversation will take place Monday, March 6th at 5 pm.  Contact Catherine, catherine@centrecountypaws.org, for more information and to register.

Adoption Follow Ups!

Snowflake is doing very well. We had some issues with her scratching our bed up bad, so I put some sticky tape on it and now she avoids those areas. I also bought her a kitty condo which she absolutely loves. Now she mostly focuses her scratching and playing there. The children love her madly. She's very affectionate. We're very happy to have her. We took her to the vet last month. I'm very happy with the PAWS experience and thank you for everything.

Radar is doing remarkably well, is progressing and fitting into our family nicely.  There are no issues and getting along with everyone-anyone who comes to visit, including my 9-month old grandson and other dogs!  He is healthy and happy.  We couldn't have picked a better dog to complete us... Thank you!
I adopted Jellyfish, now named Bug, in October 2014 and he's been a blessing. He is the sweetest cat; his favorite things are snuggling, sitting in his cat tree, playing with his cat nip toys and grooming people and linens! While he started off shy (he didn't leave from under my couch for 10 days!), he has blossomed into a social, friendly and warm cat that I am thankful for every day.
Scout is doing great! He's the most well behaved and loving boy ever. He gets along with other dogs and loves going to the dog park on the weekends! He is completely house trained and crate trained (although he sleeps in bed with us at night)... Overall, scout is an AMAZING dog. He gets along with everyone. He's great around people of all ages, even my 7 month old niece. He goes everywhere with us and we love him so much. The best part is, our cats love him too!! ;)
Love following up on our furry friends?  Lots of our adopters check back in and while we can't post them all here, we post them on our Facebook.  Check out the Happy Endings photo album on Facebook here: (https://www.facebook.com/CentreCountyPAWS/photos/?tab=album&album_id=1005665976141939).
