Meet The Artist Henrietta Dubrey

We are thrilled that Henrietta Dubrey has kindly agreed to paint a number of female nudes for Art for Cure and have been overwhelmed by her kindness and exceptional work.

Henrietta says, "I am delighted to have had the excuse to explore the female form and character in more depth, having been asked to contribute to this year’s Art for Cure event.

The body of work selected by Sally and Belinda specifically focuses on the strength and power of being a woman as well as the underlying vulnerability of how it 'feels' to be female.

These depictions of women are strong and strident and boldly present themselves, standing proud and accentuated in front of their painted coloured grounds. Working from my imagination, which is fed by looking at multifarious images and other painters and photographers work, I am fascinated by how one can conjure up such archetypal women who all have a different story to tell
".

‘Looking Forward’ will be the cover of this year’s
Art for Cure Exhibition Catalogue.

Born in Sussex in 1966, Henrietta Dubrey studied painting in the 1980s at the Byam Shaw School of Art, Wimbledon School of Art and the Royal Academy School. Her work has since been shown across the UK, including Edgar Modern, The Belgrave St Ives and London, as well as with Lynne Strover in Cambridge and at art fairs around the world. Henrietta now lives and works in West Penwith, near the tip of Cornwall.

Future Bright

Henrietta Dubrey, February 2016

Henrietta Dubrey’s female nudes are ferocious. Primitive, boldly linear and curvaceous, they face the viewer centrally, frontally, with a knowing confidence. Set against flat, brilliant backgrounds of solid colour, despite their comparatively muted flesh tones, visually they engulf the surface plane as the focal point of attention communicates itself forcibly. Inspired thus by the giants of linearity, Picasso, Le Corbusier and Hockney - Olivia McEwan, Art Critic
