Dear Friends,

While other places are recovering from a global crisis, the effects of conflict and the pandemic continue to create enormous problems for the underserved people we are trying to help.

Emergency aid to people in need is currently paramount. We are doing what we can, but it can be frustrating because we want to do so much more!

Our workload remains high and affects other vital parts of our work. As new requests for desperately needed help come in, our small team is frequently overwhelmed as we try to respond and run behind on other things.

But we can't neglect the people who are in such great need… Keep reading for more about what we are doing about that!

P.S. Don't miss our 2020 Annual Report if you would like to see how PCF responded to the overwhelming needs during the first months of the pandemic.

Migrant families in remote areas in Chiang Mai province are still facing desperate times. Renewed restrictions and reductions in employment have meant that food scarcity is a major problem.

PCF launched another emergency food relief initiative, providing 1.000 basic food packages to supplement the diets of 5.500 people for one month.

Total costs were 15.000 EUR (581.009 THB) and were covered by several sponsors – Rob Rijnders and Carla Rijnders-Matti, the British Community in Thailand Foundation for the Needy (BCTFN), Zeeshan Ahmed, Kristin, Earn and Ernest Reypens, and two anonymous sponsors.

There are still many other people in this situation, and we're doing our best to respond to this kind of need.

AFTER FLEEING CONFLICT, 35 CHILDREN NOW HAVE A SAFE HAVEN

Thirty-five children in Burma recently sought refuge in a PCF-supported school to continue their education after they had to leave their villages due to armed conflict near their homes.

Once they reached safety, there was nowhere to sleep, so their new community built a dormitory for them!
PCF supported all construction costs thanks to a generous donation from Tony Mann, which was made in memory of his late wife, Nancy. Food for the students for ten months was supported by Tony and by Stichting Welzijn Zuid-Oost Azië - Ban Adri.

Now that the dormitory is finished and lessons have started, the students have sent us and our sponsors "thank you letters", one of which is shared below:

MORE HELP FOR MORE STUDENTS DISPLACED BY NEW CONFLICTS

Due to renewed conflict, more families have sought refuge at the Loi Sam Sip camp for Internally Displaced People (IDPs) in Burma, where PCF supports a small school for displaced children.

The number of children in the school has doubled, so they required more funds to accommodate them during these uncertain times.

Thanks to our new sponsor, Rob Waardenburg - founder and CEO of Rowaco Asia Travel and member of Rotary Club Chiang Mai Airport - the school now has the needed funds to continue operations throughout 2022!

"BREAKING THE CHAIN OF POVERTY..."
Supporter Feedback

Last year, Mr. Hans van den Born, Executive Director of the Netherlands-Thai Chamber of Commerce (NTCC) visited the preschool of Baan Pha Lai, one of our projects impacted by COVID-19. And he had this to say for our 2020 Annual Report...

“It became even more clear how valuable their work is. What better way is there to invest in proper education and by doing so hopefully breaking the chain of poverty.”

“I will never forget the visit to one of the student's family’s village, listening to their stories and seeing the smiles on their faces, despite their hardship.”

“We encourage all readers to support PCF in whatever way possible and would like to thank Sallo and his team for their great work and enthusiasm throughout all these years we have been collaborating.”

You can read Hans’ full quote and those of our other supporters and beneficiaries in our 2020 Annual Report.

We would like to thank Hans van den Born and the NTCC for their continuing support for so many years already.
