Good Afternoon

The Central Storage Unit (CSU) for Derby Food 4 Thought Alliance (DF4TA) serves the foodbanks of Derby as a central hub. This is where foods that are donated or purchased are stored. When the foodbanks need a food top-up, they place an order with the CSU. The CSU is located on Ascot Drive.
DF4TA are looking to recruit 8 volunteers to help them run the CSU. Tasks include:
  • Sorting and shelving incoming donations of food. This includes date rotating and tidying of shelves
  • Date sorting and rotating the stock
  • Picking specific orders for foodbanks
  • Assisting with the moving of stock around the building
  • Some volunteers do basic checks on the DF4TA
No experience is necessary, just a desire to play a small part in the process which makes this invaluable work possible. Some shifts involve the lifting of tinned foods, but if you have difficulty with that, no problem – there are easier jobs to perform.
Shifts are usually about 2 hours or so in the morning or in the afternoon on weekdays. Some volunteers like to do one or two shifts a week. Others come once every 2-3 weeks, depending on their other commitments.
When you volunteer, you will be assigned to a team that covers the same shifts as you. DF4TA can be flexible and are happy to discuss your availability.
