Youth Homelessness Matters Day 2017 - 5 April
To mark Youth Homelessness Matters Day 2017, Victorian youth homelessness organisations and peak bodies are calling on the Federal Government to commit to a national plan to tackle rising homelessness amongst young Australians.This series of infographics highlight the statistics around youth homelessness. 

Victorian Healthy Supermarket project seminar
10 April | 10.45am | Melbourne
Learn the early results of the ‘Victorian Healthy Supermarket project.’ This project trialled new ways to promote healthy food, to make the healthy choice, the easy choice. Supermarket operators and health promotion experts are encouraged to discuss the evaluation of the project including customer perceptions, sales data and also to hear the retailer’s perspective. Gippsland alcohol and drug treatment news
From July, the AoD comprehensive assessment function will return to AoD treatment providers. There will be no change to the referral pathway for people seeking AoD treatment (see poster here).The Youth Support and Advocacy Service (YSAS) now provides AoD services to young people in East Gippsland.

Men as Allies in Preventing Violence against Women: Principles and Practices for Promoting Accountability - White Ribbon Research Series
As men have become more prominent in violence prevention work in recent years, the issue of men’s relationship with services that support women has become a subject of ongoing concern for many anti-violence activists, practitioners and scholars. This paper aims to explore the nature of those concerns and the various ways in which activist men have responded to them.

New research

Racism in Victoria and what it means for the health of Victorians
New report from the Victorian Population Health Survey 2014 examines the prevalence of experiences of racism in Victoria and investigates how these experiences impact on mental and physical health.

Close the Gap: Progress and Priorities Report 2017
Since 2010, the Close the Gap Campaign Steering Committee has made dozens of recommendations based on the expert knowledge and experience of its Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and mainstream health organisation membership.

New opportunities

Alcohol Culture Change Initiative - open funding round
VicHealth is working to change the way people drink by funding projects that address risky drinking cultures of people who are at the greatest risk of harm. Updated information about the grants is available here, as well as a video recording of the recent briefing session presentation.

Resources are now available to help organisations plan for this September event.

Resilience in children - survey for staff who work with children and families
This project aims to assist in the development of interventions that promote resilience in children by working to build more consensus on defining, measuring and building resilience in young children.

Early Childhood Scholarships program for Aboriginal people
Applications are invited from Aboriginal people currently working in a Victorian early childhood setting or primary school who wish to undertake an approved early childhood qualification.

Men's Sheds grants available
Grants of up to $60,000 are available for communities to build a new shed, or up to $30,000 to refurbish an existing one.

Indigenous round grants
Grants are available to support sporting clubs to host an Indigenous round. 

East Gippsland Water survey
Have your say on how East Gippsland Water can improve their service delivery and our environment to go into the draw to win a $100 voucher. Open to current customers only.
